Roman Base Metal Coins - A Price Guide
[RBM2006]
£4.95
by rob moseley Date Added: Tuesday 04 September, 2007
Of all my reference works Roman Base Metal Coins (and its sister publication Roman Silver Coins) are the most used and useful. They are both superb quick reference sources due to the clarity of the drawn illustrations and the organisation of content.
For example, the sections on Republican silver enable the user to negotiate this extremely complex area with relative ease by employing a pictorial system of identification that really works!
As well as the coin types described (with loads of incidental information and footnotes) and illustrated, there are also further sections on Imperatorial names and titles, mints (most useful), grading and cleaning.
Even I am rarely left stumped after consulting these books (which says a lot!) - but even when that happens there are usually clues given for further research.
It is difficult to believe that two such slim and inexpensive works can effectively cover so much ground. Their success in doing so is a tribute to the author Richard Plant - and the production team at Rotographic. Rob
