    Celtic Coin

Hi Peter, Sorry for the late reply! Yes the coins not in the best of conditions at all. It has got me wondering though, maybe I need to look harder in the garden and see if there any more laying about!
  2. Hi, Am I right in thinking this is a Henry V Groat? Thanks

Thanks Geordie! I love it, and its what made me get into collecting more to be honest! What would something like that actually be worth? or is that really a 'How longs a piece of string' question? Cheers

I have found the article its self from the website. Hope this helps? - "3. Uncertain attribution, stater core (CCI 01.0623). Obv. horse 1., two-pronged motif above, uncertain objects around. Rev. horse r., uncertain motif and three rings above, ring in front and below. Weight: 4.55 g. Chichester, West Sussex. Found by Mr Karl L while digging in the back garden of his house. This bronze core (there are a few flecks of gold intact on the reverse) has defied all attempts at identification. The presence of a horse on both sides is unusual, particularly on a stater. Its origins are perhaps more likely to lie in Belgica than in southern Britain. P. de J."

I can confirm the information I have is that the coin is a "Bronze core with gold spots".

Hi, It was Dr De Jersey that actually wrote the information and headed up the find.

    Celtic Coin

Hello! A few years back I came across a Celtic coin. To keep this short, the coin was sent off to Oxford University for identification. Once at Oxford, they informed me that they had no record of anything like it before! Photos were taken and it was also listed in the Numismatic journal at the time. The description said – “Obv. Horse1. Two Pronged motif, Uncertain objects around. Ref. horse r. uncertain motif and three rings above, ring in front and below. Weight 4.55g. This has defied all attempts at identification.†I still have all the documentation form Oxford and a couple of other specialists. I was looking around on this forum above and thought I would post this and a photo to see what people’s thoughts on it were! Thanks Karl
  8. Hello, I have put together a set of silver 6 pence coins and wondered if they were worth more as a set/run? At the moment the earliest I have is 1947 right up to 1967. Unfortunately I am however missing a 1952 coin I think. I have a number of spares, so I have picked out the best quality of each date range as well. Does anyone have an idea as to what it would be worth? Thanks Karl
  9. Hello everyone. I have been putting together a collection for a little while now and I have started putting them into some sort of order and listing them. I thought that some people may be interested in the coins that I have added to the list so far, so I have added them to my website. A few things need to changed, some more details added and some other coins too. Please let me know what you think. Hairytoe coin list Sorry if I have added this post into the wrong area. Thanks Karl
  10. Hello there, I am trying to complete a folder of old pennys at the moment. I noticed the folder asks for H and some KN coins, what does that mean? Thank you.

    1806 Farthing

Thinking about it, I thought I should try get some images to show you all. The quality of the images is not great because I ended up using my scanner, which is not that good. When I scanned the coins, I flipped them round left to right. As you can see the images are upside down. Hope these help. I have added a red line on the image indicating where the words BRITANN start and finish.

    1806 Farthing

Hello there, I am a young lad and I have only recently started collecting coins. I have recently found a 1806 Farthing ( I believe) within my collection of coins. http://www.ukcoinpics.co.uk/g3/fa/fa06p.jpg this is a photo of one I found online searching google. The coin seems unusual to me. First of all, the coin seems upside down (stick with me here, I have not gone mad!), when you look at King George III, then flip the coin over as you would any other coin, the Britannia is upside down. ALSO, the coin i found on google has the words BRITANNIA written on it. well the one I have only has BRITANN. It does not look as if the "IA" of BRITANNIA has been rubbed off or anything. Can anyone help me with this at all? I will try taking some photos and adding them if it helps? Thank you in advance. Karl
