My latest pocket money purchases...

Recommended Posts

I am just trying to buy some relatively cheap coins to try and practice my grading etc... hopefully these are not deemed to be awful. All in I think the three cost me £28.

Nice group for the price.

So. Nonmortuus. You're practising your grading. What have you decided for each? :)

Hi the coins are not my thing but the pictures are good and for £28 cant be to bad.

Sure someone will give you a good idea on the grades and weather it was a good purchase.

Pete.

Well I had them down as:

1887 Florin - Ob - VF due to the nick at 3 o'clock, Rev - EF, overall - VF
1914 Shilling - Ob - EF due to wear on upper ear, Rev - AU, overall EF
1934 Shilling - Ob - EF due to wear on upper ear , Rev - VF, overall VF

I would welcome peoples input, tell me if you think aI am wrong and why so I can re evaulate them.

I think you're possibly being a little harsh on the Rev of your 1934 shilling but, maybe also, a tiny bit optimistic re. the Rev of the 1914.

Just my opinion. Generally, your grading looks pretty good to me.

Thanks for the feedback, I am still not overly confident with my grading, I spent most of this morning at the coin fair doubting myself and asking others for their opinions. To see feedback saying I am not a million miles away is good to read.

I agree with Michael, your grading is not far off at all.

People normally grade coins for wear, allowing for weak strikes etc, and ignoring imperfections like rim nicks and digs. These will affect the value, but not the grade (at least in my opinion!)

You should be beginning to notice how so many sellers (including SOME dealers) routinely over-grade their coins.

£28 very reasonable for the 3.

I would grade the 1934 at EF+, and the 1914 at VF
