Cleaned copper half penny

Recommended Posts

Hi all,

I have this George iii half penny that I picked up cheap off ebay, but its been cleaned. Its a shame because it seems to have quite nice detail and not much wear. So just wandered will it re tone again and is there anything that I can do to speed the process up?

Many Thanks in advance

Pick up a better one cheaply. They aren't expensive and supplies are plentiful.

Yes, it will never richly tone again, at least not in our lifetime! It may go brown like a piece of old copper pipe, one day, if you're lucky? Highly polished surfaces need micro-corroding, for want of a better word, to hold a nice patina. It's virtually impossible to reverse a polished surface for toning!

As everyone has said, get rid and start again, it really isn't worth faffing around with it, honestly!

Thanks for the advice. I do have another that is far better.

it was probably covered in green verdigris, and the owner has removed it, and reduced it to a shiny button! :(
