They are just the CGS pictures apart from the F6 with the background changed.

Think they stand out a lot better and really clear such as this one .

One with really good provenance 🙂

f26-m.jpg

That's a much better photo of the coin, than the one dnw posted at the time of the Laurie Bamford auction - here

Although far from the rarest of the 1861's, the F26 is quite difficult to get in high grade.

Did you get it at the actual auction, Pete, or buy it later?

I wasnt collecting at the time of the DNW Bamford sale Mike and bought it about three years ago already CGS graded.

I decided to buy it and put away due to the provenance rather than grade 🙂

A nice example of large re-cut rose with small date obverse Pete, not sure I have seen one better than that!

Any thoughts on this 1927? I'm sure he's supposed to have an ear.

What unusual wear!

Or as often used on Ebay, 'ware'. :)

That's why they call it a "modified effigy".

Don't you mean a modified '' EARFFIGY''

It is a little bit dished in the middle, and the reverse doesn’t look quite right either. It’s almost like there wasn’t enough metal to fill the die.

Better lustre? Wow, that would be nice. I really like coins such as this that are not "micro-varietals", rare and beautiful!

Wish I could post mine also...It is the one on the PCGS site for 1926RB (MS65).

Sure it will be a really nice one Eric and yes different collectors collect different things.I dont really buy the Low grade ones anymore or any with problems and prefer to have gaps.Although this means i am currently going through a bored phase as cant find anything that i really want 🙂

Pete, do you know if the photos were taken with the coins on that black background or whether the background was blackened later ?

The 1926 as the pictures are not mine i cant be certain but think so and would say yes and blackened later ,the others are just the CGS ones before grading and also blackened later.

Pete, you know, I am in the same place as you. I guess that I was a  borderline fanatic at one time. If it was a rare DATE penny or milled silver 1830-1970 rarity, I was on it. Now, a bit of a ho-hummer.

At one time the upcoming Spink Waterbird Sale would have really gotten a charge out of me, and now I am just a bit interested . I suspect many of us have a mild version of the malady as well.

Anyway, again I like looking at this marvelous 1926ME and Richard's evidently photographic memory. Maybe I need to look again on his site at the '26ME's.

Cheers, gents (and ladies)!
