Can Anyone Identify These?

Recommended Posts

Hi all, I have been pointed in your lots direction for help!

I used to work drilling bore holes for water wells all over the UK. Many interesting things used to get thrown up in the spoil including the odd coin.

The first one I found was in Maidenhead, it was within 20m of the river Thames. It measures 4-5mm.

The second I found in Derbyshire right next to the Roman road Ryknield street.

Any info would be a great help.

Thanks in advance, Tom

Intriguing finds and welcome to the forum Tom !

I am a bit of a beginner and really don't know what your coins are.

First one looks a bit celtic and the second looks a bit like a penny from round 900 or so.

Plenty of experts around here to help you out though !

The top one does indeed look to be an Indian gold fanam.

As for the second one, it's a Northumbrian styca but I'd need better images to fully ID it.
