The height of fashion in 1794 Norwich. The items on the obverse are a ladies' fur muff and tippet

Fur muff...? :o

Oh I see.

There's a nice kinky boot on the reverse.

I got this one today as an upgrade to my 1719 Farthing with Small lettering. Also lacks the stop on the reverse.

The forum has been like the Marie Celeste of late - where is everybody?

A Victoria copper halfpenny for consideration.

There is no 1849 halfpenny. .

Robs' 1849 halfpenny is probably like my 1850 penny...... (and 1933, 1952, and 1954 pennies)

A post mint alteration

PS: wouldn't mind adding it to my collection at an affordable price....

It's the bronzed 1849 piece noted in footnote 2 on p.408 of Peck, where mention is also made of an 1850 changed from 1859. The original date of this one is unclear, though must be 1851-57 as it has dots on the shield.

I'm afraid that's not going anywhere as it has settled in quite comfortably between the 1845 and 1853 copper proof. And I don't want the hassle of rearranging the trays. ;)

Re-arranging trays is the bane of my life.

OCD eventually kicks in.

I'll have to do a little study of my 1850 penny.... not sure what the original date was nor if happened to be the coin mentioned in Peck's footnote.....

With me it was rearranging album pages....

I finally started leaving empty slots to make rearranging slightly less intense....

Probably in the same category as the 1889 farthing mentioned by Michael Freeman.....

I'd love to see that 1836 penny footnoted by Peck (or was it Bramah?) as being in Australia "on good authority".

Let's hope it wasn't a small silver one!

Unfortunately it has never been authenticated, although some of the books from the 1800s do list dates of WIIII copper as including both 1835 and 1836 Pennies and Halfpennies I have never seen or heard of any, apart from the reference you quote from both Bramah and Peck.

Sadly I realise it probably doesn't exist but just having a happy thought it might turn up one day!

Perhaps some of these vanished varieties were made but disappeared through time. It's a shame the Royal Mint doesn't seem to have many records apart from yearly mintage figures from the early 19th century.
