Hey Stuart, I hadn't realised CGS was quite such a sore point with you! They have slabbed less than 30,000 coins in total, in my mind they don't influence anything more than a very small niche market ... I have submitted 3 small batches, 25 coins in all, more as an experiment than anything, and these 'varieties' have been an unexpected bi-product!

The few I have sold have made FAR more than they would in the raw on eBay ... a 1900 shilling in no better than aEF I sold for £151 2 weeks ago, I doubt I would have got £40 for it without the CGS tag ... (it went to a Japanese guy ...)

I have been on half salary for the last year now, working from home on customer support for a UK 'Performance Management' software company, hence the absence of new impressive purchases and the need to sell some. You may remember, the reason I couldn't go the the Midland 'meet' was because of ankle replacement surgery, I am now recovering from that (going ok-ish with some scary bits), partly hence I can spend a bit more time on my hobby and posting on here, if not on acquiring more coins!

Might have to offer some of my prized coins to members before going to eBay soon, needs must!

I am so psychologically attached to my avatar 6d its ridiculous, it's as if it would signal the end if I ever sold it! Partly because it was one of my first purchases and an eBay buy, so beginner's luck ... So many compliments about it, and being so small the pics show it off better than the coin in hand!

Currently sat here with an ankle that looks like a pepperoni pizza with extra olives, that has gone horribly wrong! So sensible offers on any coins you know I own (apart from the E7 6d) might be sympathetically received!

Whilst discussing TPG's and varieties I understand that in the US not all TPG's recognise

the same varieties.

This is causing a nice little can of worms.

That's because like any other business/organisation/individual they all know best to the exclusion of others. Religion, politics, TPGs, the Dundee fruitcake.... all are specialists in their own way and so everyone else is wrong. Progress will have been made when any of these organisations acknowledge that the competition has a good point or argument and that they are wrong - it ain't going to happen.

On a non-CGS basis, right? ;)

Do you mean removed from slab before despatched?! I am certainly not expecting any premium from forum members just because some of my coins are slabbed, you lot know better! ;)

That's what I meant too, all my coins are sold on raw merit, the few that have passed through CGS hands will have a little extra authenticity provenance and that is all! The prices CGS attach to the coins they slab are usually Spink or above, and could be used for insurance purposes ... but I have seen them exceeded on eBay!
