One of the strange looking 1763 Shillings is now in the next DNW sale

with the strange lettering , double striking on the portrait of the king

and the strange drapery . Amazing none from these dies appear to have

been seen until these two that were discussed turned up

Perhaps we should sell your two coins, Rob?

151667504155

Talking of which, does anyone want to take at look at Rob's two copies, as they are presently with me? Rob is happy for them to do the rounds if anyone is interested?

So, any takers please PM me, otherwise they will be making their way back to Manchester. :)

Strange , that the die in question cannot be found in older sales of the 1763 Shilling

yet same seller of the £2395 1763 now has another at £1400 and a USA seller has

a much worse looking one at £1256

Photo one is of the one already discussed and still up for sale £2395

Photo two is the new one same seller has £1400

Photo three is the USA one at £1256

But why would you bid £00s on a coin if you don't know enough to recognise a copy??

Could it be people in the know overbidding to stop it being sold?

Like you say, it's obviously a copy... And if I know that then someone spending 200 quid on it surely does?

Uh, oh! Scuff some of these sterling silver copies up, and black them with some bleach, then...hey presto...

Can someone post the seller's entire list from this one listing please?

Yes. It's good they are honest about it.

But without that warning (perhaps from less honest seller) it looks pretty convincing in the photos to me...

Good spot Stewie!

I've had two of these before, and seen another in hand, and they're not all thick. In fact the one I had in a W&W lot was 'hammered' thin.

This is one of the lesser ones I've seen! Thanks for putting the images up TG! :)

The seller mentioned nothing about it being a copy in the title, which is rather misleading TBH.

Found this, whilst looking at the 1818 Crown fakes floating around, makes me sick the industrial scale at which any of these coins can be produced,There is a picture of a 1934 Crown die half way down the page,so there must be a few of those in circulation be that die split.

http://www.aliexpress.com/store/product/United-States-Coins-1878-8TF-Morgan-Wrong-Type-One-Dollar-In-God-We-Trust-Brass-Silver/736125_32548209759.html

If they actually made them with their proper alloy, rather than the brass alloy, they said they are using, doesn't bear thinking about how coin collecting would be affected.

according to the PCGS website the certificate number is correct, the coin looks fake for sure, so i'd assume that its a fake holder and they've used the cert number from a genuine coin. The other thing to note is that it would be a 10k coin in that grade, for me its a fake definitely

Somewhat more damning is the use of the 2 guinea busts on a one guinea. It's a forgery all day long.
