Nice coin. Probably VF judging by the photo. I have one that is very similar (my 'rose' looks smaller). Final price seems about right. Fair but not a bargain.

Agree on the cleaning. On further thought, that probably brings the value down and makes it overpriced.

I bought mine (Elizabeth I - Milled coinage; large bust, cross fourchèe, small rose, mm.star) at auction (many years ago) and it was graded at VF+then. While it is always hard to tell from a photo, I thought mine was just a bit better than the ebay one hence why I felt that one might be a VF. Maybe mine is conservatively graded.

I'm no fan of hammered (post-Saxon) but that one is gorgeous - like an early milled coin and beautifully toned. In fact, if you hadn't referred to it as hammered I would have sworn it was milled. (Oh wait - I just read the description - it IS milled ).

I looked at it and immediately thought NEF. These primitive milled coins are a real hybrid but should in my opinion be graded by early milled standards, even though the cut of the portrait is very much as per the hammered series. Actually I thought £311 was on the low side despite the cleaning. Shame I didn't spot it...

My feeling is there's a bit less wear on the ebay coin, though that's trusting the photos. Compare the pearls on the bodice with Jaggy's for example. It's a shame about the cleaning, but I suspect in time with toning that will be less apparent.

Of course, having a preference for toned over bright I suspect in the hand Jaggy's has more eye appeal. But strictly grade wise, nEF (ebay) gVF (Jaggy) for me. Both nice coins.
