victoria

gold young victoria coin

Hi all, i've had in my posession for about 18 years a victorian ring with a very small vicorian coin. At first i thought it was just made for the ring but then i noticed the coin has circulation wear on the underside (the face of victoria) It also has Victoria Regina inscribed around the edge, can't see any date although it could be hidden by the mount? . On the reverse side it has st george, no date underneath just the words st.george. The ring is from italy and has victorian hallmarks. Does anyone know what it could be? I thought maybe a half florin ? post-7166-026403300 1325715013_thumb.jpg

Welcome to the forum.

From the small pictures, it doesn't appear to be a coin but rather a toy coin. I could be wrong but you might see some familiar examples here.

thanks for the advice i would have been looking forever, i def think it is a toy coin. it measures about 13mm and now i think that although the ring itself is gold the coin may be brass or plated ? it has a metalic smell when you rub it. I'd never heard of them before. It doesn't have anything on it other than Victoria Regina , no makers initials or "toy money" like others i've seen though ....

Well it has to be toy money as it looks like St George is facing the wrong way, he should be facing right as you look at the coin, from the picture, he seems to be facing left

....to a coin collector. To a jewellery connoisseur it might be worth something, but you'd have to take it to a reputable jewellers (Ratners - not!).
