on bronze victorian coinage, there is a lot of mention about berries, (5 berries/4 berries etc...) what are they?

It's the wreath on the effigy, how many berries and leaves it has in it. It's one of the distinguishing features of the victorian obverses.

The berries and leaves are almost impossible to distinguish on F and lower VF grades.
