Hi I have a new metal detector and have just found a George iiii coin. It has a picture of St george and dragon on one sid and Georgeiiii on the other. The date on it is 1823. It also looks as if it is gilded or gold??

Is it worth anything?? it looks to be in reasonable condition.

Thanks ...Jeff

Jeff,

Well it could be a sovereign. If it feels heavy like gold then it probably is. To verify you need to find out what it weighs, tell me its diameter and provide a scan good enough to grade it by.

Forgery was quite popular then so it could be a silver of other less expensive gilded coin.
