Great Britain Stamp Varieties (1981)

Wow, so it hasn't been updated since 1981, before I was born! :o:blink:

Yep, that's what it deserves if it was so unworthy of being worked on these passed 23 years!

It's not that it's unworthy, they just seem to focus more on coins.

Just because kuhli could only find evidence of a 1981 edition, doesn't mean that was the last one printed does it!

I think the last one may have been printed as little as 3 years ago, but it isn't a big seller. In fact, probably the only book that sells more than 4,000 per year is Collectors' Coins GB, so it's important we disregard the stamps/Roman/Irish/Banknotes and just consider the layout of the Collectors' Coins book (perhaps mixing a bit with the Collectors' George III book).

It's great to get all this feedback, and I particularly like the idea of kuhli's to put a feedback form in the book somewhere to try and ascertain what the 10,000+ buyers of that book actually want. I will seriously consider that one, and will indeed implement many of the wonderful suggestions so far.

Keep up the good work, but please don't stay, it's pointless talking about other stuff, in here, at this point.

Well i would have offered to help myself, but since my sixpence fetish stops suddenly at 1758 and i refuse to go beyond that point, and the only modern milled coin that's held my fascination for any length of time is the Victorian Shield reverse Sovereign, it looks like i'm not much use to you.

Why is there no book for coins 1662-1813? I think it's about time there was a specialist book just concentrating on Early Milled.

If you ever do an early milled book, you know where to come for the sixpences. :D

Yes!

In fact, a very knowledgable coin dealer friend has already suggested I expand and print 'Collectors' Hanovarian Coins' etc etc

Yep, I agree, for early milled collectors, it would be very helpful to publish a special reference guide for them! Do you think we should make a seperate book for that, or include it in the main Collectors' coins?

Neither, there's enough work as it is!

I'd say separate, but as an early milled fan i would say that wouldn't i? :D

But i agree with Oli there is enough on at the minute with the later book, but then again it just goes to show modern milled always remains the most popular of the two... honestly you people you haven't lived until you'd tried the earlier stuff!:D

I expect to start organising the 2006 edition after the 2005 edition is in the shops, so perhaps October - the new year. It's hard to say before I even know what it will exactly involve.

Ok, so volunteers so far are:

William

Oli

Master JMD

Penny Master

Anyone else, just make yourself know in here!

I will of course be happy to help. Most of my time and thought have gone into George III over the past two or more years, so I am sure that is where you will want to use me. I will be happy to answer any question, provide photographs of my collection, research any topic or help in any other way that I am able.

I would love to see a really useful book on George III come out of this and I think you can do it Chris!
