1903 Edward VII sovereign

The axial lighting doesn't really show it well, but this has pretty good lustre left in the fields with anisotropic reflection clearly visible.  It's my nicest Ed.

1894 Mourning Victoria sovereign

Another nice example, with anisotropic reflection still visible in the fields, although not shown well by the axial lighting.  I haven't really got a good rig to show the lustre well - figuring this out is still work in progress.

1889 Jubilee Victoria sovereign

Jubilee heads show wear around the hair line and the lace trim on the veil quite severely - it's not easy to find ones that aren't quite badly worn there.  However, I picked up this one, which arrived today, and it's quite a nice example with most of the detail on the obverse intact.

But only in high grade. Don't forget that there were 4000 low grade 1925s in a Noble sale 12 or 13 years ago with only one example worth lotting as a single. I presume most of those got melted, as there's no way you could shift that many, even on ebay.

The 1925 half crown has the lowest mintage of the second series of 1.4 million. Here's my example that has been displayed on this forum previously. It cost $110 at MR Roberts, Wynyard many years ago

1892 Jubilee Victoria sovereign

This Jubilee Victoria sovereign isn't as nice as the other one, showing the typical wear pattern on the hair line and lace trim on the veil.

1880 Young Victoria sovereign

This is somewhat worn - VF or thereabouts - but has some scuff marks visible on the reverse.  It also looks like somebody's attempted to remove a red spot.

Very nice - yes, it's rare in that grade certainly (but not in low grade).

1918 George V Sovereign

The new item isn't the coin, but some lights that facilitate taking pics showing the coin's lustre better.  Here are a few pics taken of sovs with the rig.

Latest coin arrived today a 1918 PCGS MS 64 florin. An improvement on the MS 62 I had . This coin still has the usual weakness in the upper shield on the reverse. Having said that I don't think I have seen a fully struck reverse on the George V first series florins with the exception of the 1911 proof. The coin took about a month to arrive in Australia from the UK  and  the package had been opened by customs for biological hazards.

A nice coin and yes most are weak on one side ,although i only look at the 1920.

This is one i bought recently on eBay (big head obverse) and although not the best grade a much better strike than most to the reverse.

Its finding one struck well to both sides of the 1920 that seems impossible as the big head has a better reverse BUT the obverse is always weak ,which is the opposite to the small head.

Thats is a good one 👍 ,its a year that i have a few of in high grade as always buy them if a nice one.

Your own is the much more common one looking at as many as i have over the last few years its OBV 3 that is much scarcer and harder to find.

The easiest indicator IMO is I of Georgivs to tooth on the scarcer one ,is your NGC OBV 3.

yeah - I just checked my BU 1914 and it has weak lions in the top quarter (though not as weak as on your 1918!, which otherwise is a very nice coin).

Yes it seems 1914 is a better year for florins. Here's my 1914 NGS MS 64. Still weak on the lion's faces but the shield fully struck along with the crowns on each shield.

All my florins from 1912 to 1919 have a weak strike on the upper shield, but in my case the best is the 1915:
