No, it was just such a nice coin, nice fields, no nicks as is normal with bullion. It’s not something I’d normally buy, just liked the look of it all round.

A fair assumption though I suppose as I did put aside a particularly nice one from my birth year.

I've bought lots of bullion coins over the years and, back before it became the popular form of saving it is now, you'd often get aUnc-Unc coins included in the batch. I always separated these out and keep them stored individually. Ten or so years ago Vickies and Eddies, which are now sold at a premium in VF+ condition, would be included in aUnc-Unc with any group of sovs sold as bullion.

I do want a birth year coin, but buying some bullion here and there is never a bad thing, especially with the economies the way they are just now, wish I bought earlier though

When I was buying most you'd get four or five sovs for a grand and, as I said, aUnc-Unc old coins would be included. Now a grand won't buy you three and choice collectable coins will not feature. However, check out the five to ten year graphs, you'll still get a better return than you would from any savings account. I see the ten year interest for gold currently stands at 47.66% and fifteen years a whopping 342.79%.

I picked up a couple of lovely young lady's the other day , I think they must be twins   VICTORIA and VICTOEIA  😊   

I'm not into Farthings much but these came up so I jumped at them .   The E in VICTOEIA is extremely clear with just the tip of the long downward arm of the R showing.

Lovely coins the VICTOEIA is not a really hard variety to find but its a slightly scarcer date so collectors want both which pushes up the prices

Not quite a coin purchase, but nearly!

Can’t believe I sold this book, thinking that’s it, only to buy the same book again around 1 year later!

Absolutely hopeless! Only reprieve is it’s the updated Memorial Edition! Very happy about that!

My recent St James purchase just landed, pleased to say the import duty cost less than the import duty I paid on a £19 calendar at Christmas last year, that cost me €10 whereas the duty on a £400 coin cost €7.96

Lovely 1885 florin, it looks better than picture at St James, great buy.  

One question re the import duty, what if bringing coins in person to UK, how the custom officer assess value of the predecimal coin n levy the tax?  Solely on self declared value?

I’ve no idea, I’ve never brought any through British customs as yet.
