Landed today. Latest for my Charles I halfcrown collection, 1644 Oxford, rare die pairing, Bull 617/6

That's ok :)

Good provenance too - Marshall 132. Next step back from there will be something pre-1944, that being the year he was killed in action, unless the family added it in the meantime.

I now have my second Charles I Oxford halfcrown, this time with an Oxford horse - and a very pleasing horse and king I think!

Thanks Rob, I'm getting there, trying to keep my standards up!

An exceptionally well-struck specimen! Horse and king are superb. Congrats.

That's a good obverse!

I don't have anything on it at the moment, but I'm currently ploughing through catalogues to image a lot of assigned provenance coins.

Another one for the collection - purchased from me. It had been on the website for 5 years with b****r all views or interest at fairs, so in keeping with my philosophy of buying stock wherever possible which I would be happy to absorb in the event of it not selling, I have gained :)

A while ago there was a discussion about a 1723 SSC 6d which I can't find right now, but the discussion about the 3 being over a 7 prompted me to dig a little deeper, and as I suspected the reverse die is a reworked 1717 R&P die as there is a trace of a plume under the base of the C in the first quarter. So, a new variety, with S over a sideways S and R over B in BR on the obverse, and 23 over 17 on the reverse. R over B is noted in ESC, but nothing else.

I'm struggling with the microscope to get a decent image of the remnants of the plume, but viewed obliquely, it is better

Is that the same reverse die as mine? The 3 is a good match. If so, it is a later strike as yours has rust spots.
