Why Does an Alarm bell ring when I see this. What is with the curly 7's and the oval 0 and the funny serifs on the N's? I take it that is a 1707 sixpence supposed metal detecting find.

Well spotted. It seems more of these scammers try to fish out opportunist buyers by acting dumb. When will people learn there's no such thing as a free lunch. Sadly eBay do not have enough staff to monitor all listings.

His spelling on the slab is worse than mine :D

Maybe so, but that gives me another denomination to add to the list of things to collect.

I shall wade in with both feet and bid face value..........when I've composed myself.

Not at all. You mean to tell me you've not heard of that brief denomination, the Corwn? Face value 4s 10d three farthings...

Slabbed and graded crowns from China....

The Chinese fakers have just about managed to make convincing replicas.  However, they still can't manage to do the edge lettering properly.  Voila, stick in a fake slab that obscures the edge.  Job done.

Not sure picking a PR67+ slab to copy was wise though.  This is what it should look like:

Still reported the tool. I think it was a massive mistake to infringe copyright by trying to portray it as a PCGS slab. Foot note or no foot note everything above that skirted authenticity even saying commemorative silver. The only silver in that coin is the colour :)

I agree, this is so ridiculous! Yet no more ridiculous (although perhaps in general normally less extreme) than many, many other inflated asking prices on eBay. Such is the nature of this 'beast'.

Thanks for sharing. I have also reported it. This should be a £20,000 coin. Heritage auctions have one 'Live' now it is already at $18,0000 with two weeks to go and that is only a PR67 without the +

Heritage Auctions 1847 Crown PR67

eBay is a great place to buy coins, you just have to be careful.

Crikey. Not leaving much out are they. Almost every area of collecting has effectively been covered/ replicated. Glad I've got an eye for pewter spotting!

They do look a bit perfect... not my field though - I'd love a Cnut penny...  but I don't want to pay hundreds of pounds for a real one or £2.00 for a copy either....  I would love to pay £2.00 for a mint like real one like the ones on e-bay...  but I think it sounds a bit too goo to be true. Still, what do I know?

Who bought that?  I can't see it as anything but a standard penny in 'Good/Very Good' condition... unless I'm missing something.  For £250 he can have all my Fine Victoria veiled head pennies. - free delivery too....  I'll deliver them by hand.
