Chris, you may not be aware that spammers are signing up to post their spam, which typically contain information on how to buy pharmaceutical drugs online, which is actually illegal in some countries. Some of the spam also contains porn.If I were you, you'd better check the membership list from time to time.

I thought that I had better let you know.

Aidan.

Yes, I am aware of it and have to delete/control it every day!

In some areas I have banned code from being posted, which helps. In another area I have to check every post before making it visible to the others. Every new member has their email and IP address checked to make sure they are not from a major spamming country (which include China and Russia as the main culprits).

But, when I'm in bed, there's no stopping non members posting spam in other areas. Without making the forum a strictly member only place, there's not much I can do except delete it periodically and ban the IP address range that posted it.

Chris,I get a lot of spam from America, which mainly advertises pharmaceutical drugs online, which is actually illegal in a number of countries.I don't understand why banks, especially Barclays & Royal Bank of Scotland are always sending spam. It's a major headache getting rid of it every time.

Aidan.

These "spammers" as you put it aren't exactly "spammers", but "bots", sent out (like spam emails etc..) but with the purpose of signing up to forums and posting their adverts. I googled and found this: thing about how to stop bots. It doesn't seem too promising but from what I've read IPB's next update should have a very useful bot stopper.

One way of stopping them (haven't tried this) would be to create a user group for total beginers, meaning that they can't start topics (only reply) until they have a cirtain amount of posts. But I guess if someone signed up just to start a new topic involving a coin question this wouldn't help that much.

(Just checking in).

He could of been holding a Carpenters CD.

I would also say that Joseph was a trusty soul...virgin Mary etc.

The jury is out here...although driving back from a break in North Norfolk and country laneing it with the Magnificent Churches every 1/2mile or so...well it made me feel Christian....well a bit. ;)

Christianity has done some good in society. It's left some stunning architecture, nice paintings, some beautiful manuscripts and alot of entertaining history... beyond that though i'm going to keep my gob shut.

I deleted about five spam threads all in one go today. It was interesting because some of them didn't have links in.

I was at the Frankfurt bookfair, so wasn't able to check the last couple of day. Can you list the IP addresses of offenders that you delete in this area Oli/Syl, in this format, one per line:

192.168.72.4

(I've recently been banning whole ranges of spammer IPs and I think it does actually help reduce it slightly)

Ok, sm, it certainly wouldn't hurt to have a mod in a different time zone. I'll make you a mod later and then give you some brief instructions.
