Some quite nice interesting offerings, mostly going within estimate parameters. I got one - an example I've wanted for some time.

@The Coinery is a member here. It's Guy Fie who has his own, largely internet based, coin dealership.

I used to look but haven't seen anything for quite a bit so honestly didn't even glance. Glad at your success though; care to share?

Thanks. Lot 115 - the 1839 proof penny. Started at £3k. Auctioneer's commission bidder up to £3,600. Got it for £3,700 hammer, no further counter bid.

Could argue that it was expensive, but it'll never need an upgrade replacement.

Victorian copper and bronze proofs seem to be getting very costly. Perhaps a reflection of their scarcity.

Nice then! My own is still in a 2x2 mylar as I got it from Baldwin in the good ole days. Maybe a 65 or? Bronzed.

I bought the 1827 penny in AU55, £1500 hammer. Certainly seems a fair price compared to LCA offerings in an inferior grade. And no evidence of corrosion,  rare to see one better.

That seems like a pretty good deal to me.

Yes, that was a very, very nice specimen and undoubtedly a bargain. As you say, no visible trace of corrosion. Had I not bought the VF Ian Sawden specimen last October, I'd have also gone for that instead of the 1839.

Neat capture Jerry.

Just had the invoice. It's actually Guy Fonquernie. Fie is obviously an abbreviation.

1849 Florin MS65 £2200 wow. Very nice coin, so fair enough I guess.

It is but is it rare in this condition? The strike is a little weak in places most noticeable near the top crown and 1st lion below. The rim shows a few marks. It is very very nice but perhaps not worth 3X CYB value?

Guy is ‘The Coinery’,  Stuart is ‘Coinery’.  It’s caught me out before now too.

Probably not. I was thinking of the Court Jester with Danny Kaye.

I must agree. I was a bit shocked at the price.

Unfortunately its not Guy who runs thecoinery. He's also now collaborating with numistacker, he likes to get his fingers in as many pies as possible
