What's Your Job in Real Life?

Recommended Posts

As per thread title, I'm interested to find out a little more about everyone here including your day jobs.  If you're retired, what was your primary occupation when you still had one?

I'm not working at the moment, but have a Bachelor of Music degree.  Worked as a high school music teacher for about four years and a full-time private instrumental music teacher for about two.  Also toiled in a very unglamorous administrative role in the insurance industry for seven years (loss adjusting firm).   At the moment I do house chores and run around after my primary-school aged children while my wife works as a records officer at the local council.

My longest career was in computing .. but we're talking IBM mainframes here, not the kind of device everyone carries around now.

Planned for early retirement began last year.

Before that, 30 years working in publishing as an illustrator, mostly children's books.

Before that, making a racket with electric guitars.

Feeling a bit out of place.  Once again I have stumbled across a hobby dominated by intelligent professionals.

Early Retired now, prior to that I had a Travel Agency for 12 years, before that I was IT Consultant on IBM Mainframes (Like Peck) both with IBM and other companies. Before that I was British Army - Royal Engineers all round the world.

I collected coins for a while as a child and then got back into them while I was being a Travel Agent (too little intellectual challenge there!).

I work for an Oracle partner, mainly focused on Unix and Linux. Also partnered with NetApp, VMware, Dell, HPE, Lenovo, Veeam, Cisco, AWS, Microsoft, Azure etc etc. Been here a long time now, were small but very good at what we do around Unix.
