I nearly started this one a while ago but decided I was seeing things.

Anyway, without further ado ... Am I still seeing things please, and if so, what? ( I know what I think I see).

A 1908 Penny Obverse for your pleasure.

Thanks guys, some semblance of sanity has been restored :)

Very pleased as that was in a £10 lot along with a couple of viccies I was far more interested in!

Out of interest, what's it worth?

I don't think I want to get into penny varieties yet, so it may well fund some more Vickies instead if it's worth it.

In that condition anything over £130 ish in your pocket and you have done well.....IMO

More are turning up like most varieties and this just brings the price down.

You may be able to ask more to someone who really wants one.....just need to find them and if at auction there are fees :)

One is for sale on ebay that was purchased at LCA in Sept/Dec but been on a few months.

Dave craddock sold a couple last year for £100 each (maybe cheap) and although i did not see them or the pictures i would not of thought they were lesser grade.

Maybe i am way off as they were selling for £250 ish when i bought mine a couple of years ago although it is better and as i have mentioned more have turned up since then.

Terry found a good one recently and they will always command a hefty premium as if its scarce will be even harder to find in a good grade.

I was going to say £100 but thought i would make you feel better ;)

Good luck..

Pete.

Just giving you my opinion ,however i do try and keep intouch with prices as with some other low grade ones if i know there are more being found i know its time to get rid of mine ;)

Ah, but you have your finger on the pulse as it were, so you'd have a much better feeling for this market than I would going by fleabay or old LC sales etc.

I guess I'll list it on fleabay soon (when I get a sell for £1 max email), but until then I'm open to offers.

At first i didnt want to post and let anyone know my opinion on an open forum...... which is all it is.

However you did ask the question and keen to see what others may think :)

I would put on as a BIN or offer for a month first and just try it as a more specialised penny.

A mate of mine put a decent 1911 gouby x on before christmas, good photos and description. It was on for ten days and finished on a sunday night.

I felt bad him posting it me as i bought it for £3 :o

You dont want anything daft like that to happen.

I have been struggling to see the variety in this since the pictures were originally posted, and using the excellent: https://headsntails14.wordpress.com/edward-vii-obverses/ site for reference. I think I now know why I have had a problem: On the site in the Obverse types it gives three - given Freeman numbers 1, 2 and 3, but on the varieties page it uses Obverse types 1, 1* and 2. Hence I was seeing a type 2 and couldn't see the rarity. I think there is a misprint, or at least a mismatch in the website...

£3 Lol. No, thats why I'd be waiting for a sell for a quid maximum. That way I can set it up for a BIN without fear of the fees.

That's why this is a "Take 2" .

I originally thought I saw it, and checked somewhere else and thought I was bonkers, in the end I canned the first thread http://www.predecimal.com/forum/topic/12448-look-over-there/

You're absolutely right - surprised no-one spotted it before now - hopefully correct now.

It looks like a 1+d , can it be, or is it a case of the wrong obverse picture placed with the reverse. Tony Clayton stated that one example has been found.   Did you buy it Ian ????

Nothing gets past you Terry:ph34r:

Think I have experienced similar 'mixed up' pictures on ebay about half a dozen times over the years.

If the listing had not been restricted to ebay.de then I think there could have been much competition over this one..........and a big price, and subsequent disappointment............caveat emptor!!
