The "9" of your 1893 looks a bit odd, Scott. Or is it an optical illusion?

Sorry, can't get rid of the previous quote above.

My first acquisition of 2017 - and probably my last for a few months as it's cleaned me out post Christmas - is an 1862 F41, from halfpenny dies. Bought Colin Cooke, ex Andy Scott. Straight fine with all major details intact.

Been trying to a reasonable specimen for years. Finally succeeded. Most of the others I've seen on offer have been washers or not much better.

Excellent coin indeed and congratulations, a very clean example.

Cheers chaps.

Pete, does that Spink ticket give some pre Scott provenance?

Well done, Mike, nice addition. I'd quite like a photo for my website if you're happy - the Spink photo was down to their usual standard.

Thanks Richard, much appreciated. Yes indeed - is the photo I've provided OK?

Andy bought it off ebay in 2013 Mike ,so sorry nothing before that :)

OK, thanks Pete. I'll pass then, but the offer is very much appreciated :)

I am always really interested in provenance, and the older the better. When looking at a coin, I often wonder what its history is, and when exactly it was plucked out of circulation. Of course in the vast majority of cases we'll never know.

Really nice reverse on that one - not often you get to see Britannia's toes on Ed VII coins.

Here is a pic of the F79 I bought from Guy (The Coinery), now jailbroken from the slab.

Grade on the CGS slab was EF70, about MS60-61 on the Sheldon scale.

Very pleased.

Very nice. I am probably the only person here who don't know this but what is the web address for Rob's site? (I am guessing that he does manage a well-known retail site)

Collected my LCA won lot from the Post Office today. Freeman 106, part of lot 65 from the Michael Freeman Christies sale of 23.10.84, with his ticket. No idea what the P1722 is on the ticket. Only VF, but nevertheless very pleased to have won an ex Freeman at the relatively low hammer price of £90.

I was told by a predecimal guru that I should move my recent posting to this topic. So here goes:

I recently made some Victorian bronze acquisitions to my collection:

Victorian pennies of 1867, 1882-H, and 1885.
