Help with identification (Edward I penny)

Recommended Posts

Hello forum members,

I bought this little Edward I penny recently on flea-bay. Wanted to ask the class/type. It looks like a class 1d due to the large lettering, but looking through my Galata Guide to the infinitely confusing pennies of Edward I and Edward II, it looks like it could be one of the class 2 types too. I'm looking for some expert advice please. Thanks guys! :)

Descartes.

And I rest my case re the class 1 coins of Edward (as talked about in the Baldwin thread).

Nice penny, have you got the reverse handy?

Didn't stay on eBay for very long! ?

I was reading my old thread on my own Edward Class 1d - you got what you were after, then?

Did you see that superb high-class Bristol penny back a bit? Beautiful! I bid about £125 I think it was...did you win that?

My example 1d

Hi Coinery, yeah, I'm really happy with my 1d - so I got what I wanted! :)  Yes, I saw that lovely Bristol penny too. Didn't win i though. There is a superb Edward I 2b 'brizzles' for sale at the moment at Hammered British Coins: http://www.hammeredbritishcoins.com/plantagenet/925-edward-i-silver-penny-2b-bristol.html (but it's quite expensive!).

notice that coin has some red/blue toning, where would these coins have come from, obviously not the groud for that one, amazing how they travel down the years

The same penny but, just wow! Twice as much? Goodness, it's nice, but not that rare and nice!
