I have heard of a few milled edge bronze coins. Corbitts had one in their June sale this year in F which sold for £50. Maybe they were trials of some kind?

Or there is a possibility that it was milled somehow by a 3rd party at some point after it was made. In Freeman there are mentions of pennies that were milled but found out to have been milled later.

No way is that silver, looks to have been chrome plated.

Definately looks to be a 'silver' metal other than silver, it's not white enough for silver though.

My bet is on chrome.

Made from a 1911-1927 penny it is a very unconvincing fake. I really wouldn't pay that much for it. £20 at the most!

A rather princely sum was paid for that fake. I wonder if the buyer was hoping it would turn out to be geniuine -- a rather bad bet considering that the seller was holding all the cards.

...no farthings were minted in 1755 (the year of demonitisation), and a farthing minted in 1756 would surely be extrodinarily rare, would it not?

I think he's confusing demonitisation with coins simply not being made in certain years. And from the young portrait, that's 1736 unless I'm very much mistaken. The '3' often looks like a '5'.

As regards E-bay, it is a facility that can be used if you keep your wits about you. Some good coins can be found at reasonable prices. Of course, you may be bidding against another seasoned collector so you must set a maximum on the coin, based on YOUR attribution and grade. Take no notice of what the seller says. I bought this Henry II for £5 and, although horrendously pierced, I think the portrate and reverse are as good as they get.(appart from EF of course). Can't add a pic! It won't let me add a file!!!
