That's interesting isn't it.

I think someone should report that to eBay.

I notified the seller of the 'real' coin who is perhaps best placed to complain

Apparently ebay has terminated the auction. Good work!

 He's got some front!

Caveat emptor!

I can never remember what that means! (I must have looked it up forty times).

Some of these ebay people need either help or a bullet. Which often amounts to the same thing.

"Buyer Beware"

I somehow keep thinking it means something to do with something being empty.

Thanks you saved me having to dig the Latin dictionary off of it's shelf.

I have real trouble remembering what Latin phrases mean, i dunno why it just doesn't go in.

That's one of the few I can remember.

'pro rata', 'quid pro quo' and 'status quo' being the others

Any more, anyone?

I got Status Quo, no idea what the other mean though.

I can remember stuff like per annum, ibidem, etcetera, anti/post meridian (sp?), pater noster, anno domini, and the other odd word here and there. Which is not too bad considering i've never studied Latin.

Having said that though i was never all that fantastic at the languages i did study, i think in English, i guess i'm just not a language person.

Or a maths person... :(

Although oddly enough i liked science.

oh and 'terminus post-quem' and 'terminus ante-quem' which i learned in my days doing archæology.

From history study i picked up a few others, sola fidei, sola scriptura. Septem Sacramentorum.

And i can just about count in latin.

Its all Greek to me. :D

I know by heart Caveat emptor....you must go thru life with that firmly in your mind.

From getting a mortgage to insurance and pensions.....read around your subject first.

Oh you can, you can trip him up, stamp on him and throw a bucket of sand on him for good measure.

Some people call me cruel, i call it justice.

I'm sure everyone spoke Latin in 1989. In fact, I recall the midwife exclaiming "Ecce - Vir!"

What do they shout (or whisper) if it's indeterminate? :D

Just a generic form like "Man's greatest invention is...."

Edit: Oh, and "Ecce" means "Look".

Presumably this brain-dead pond life hasn't noticed that the coins in his/her pocket (or the bits of change that come when they cash their Giro) also have Latin on them.

The really sad thing is that this person is probably no ignorant kid but an adult, no doubt with kids of their own called Kaylee and Jordan, a white van and who watches - nay, videos - Celebrity Love Island from the comfort of a council house living room furnished by MFI to the accompaniment of lukewarm kebabs and even more lukewarm lager.

Snob - moi?

(It's OK Chris, I've ditched that wallpaper since you visited :D )

Kebabs....Ambrosia of the Peteritus...especially after a few lukewarm real ales :D .

Less beer and its the healthy chicken skewer...over 4 pints and its the full Donar with plenty of Chiili sauce. :P

I think the seller is definitely a kid Geoff, one of the coins is from 1989 and dates before the seller was born, so they are probably about 15 or less.

I can't remember your wallpaper at all, you'll probably be pleased to know!
