Bought this a couple of weeks ago, Trebonianus Gallus AR Antoninianus.

Gaius Vibius Trebonianus Gallus (251-253 A.D.)

Short join rule with Hostilian who died from the plague.

Gallus then ruled with his son Volusianus as co-emperor.

Both killed by their troops.

Obverse: IMP C C VIB TREB GALLVS P F AVG, radiate, draped & cuirassed bust right

Reverse: SAECVLLVM NOVVM, Roma seated facing in hexstyle temple, two dots in ex. RIC 91

Hope the picture works, my first one!

What do you think?

Dave

Is the obverse relief quite high? The legend looks out of focus compared to the effigy. Super coin by the way!

The relief is quite high, and its not the best photo (probably another Topic - if there isn't one already?), but the legend is not as crisp as some. Over all though, its a lovely coin in hand! (not bad for 1750 years old!)

Dear All,

I just tonight won this coin on e-Bay:

Antoninus Pius, AR denarius,

Obverse: ANTONINVS AVG PIVS P P Laureate head right.

Reverse: TEMPLVM DIVI AVG REST Temple of Divus Augustus and Livia, statues within.

Is it me or does it look like Livia is mooning out of the Temple door?

Dave

:P

Yes it does doesn't it! That's even funnier than my Offa joke.

Antoninus Pius Birthday Cake!

One of my latest buys, not quite as good as the mooning one.

Its actually a coin issued by Marcus Auralius in honour of Pius and shows his funeral pyre.

Divus Antoninus Pius Denarius. Issued by Marcus Aurelius, 161 AD. DIVVS ANTONINVS, bare head right / CONSECRATIO, four tiered funeral pyre surmounted by quadriga.
