Busy day for the Royal Mint

Recommended Posts

The Beatrix Potter 50p was released this morning. Not my thing, but my wife bought a couple for our  children this morning... After queuing behind 900 other people to get on to the Royal Mint website!

Seems, the mint are doing something right for collectors if not numismatists! Or after a stream of errors, are people speculating on the mint making another error?

People are certainly speculating, but more on the ability to sell for more on ebay when the coin sells out.

Just tried and still 129 people in front of me.

There's apparently going to be a coloured 50p with Peter Rabbit on the front too. And another 4 designs to commemorate the 150th anniversary..

I couldn't find them on their site, I think they might've sold out already. But from what I can see I think they're a tenner-

Standard BU coin in pack is £10 and I think the silver proof coloured version is £55 (and isn't available currently).

The RM will make as many as they have demand for.

With the coloured rabbit effort, the RM state this:

Issuing Country: United Kingdom

Metal: Solid .925 Sterling Silver

Weight: 8.00 Grams / Diameter: 27.30mm

Quality: Silver Proof

Issue Limit: 15,000 Worldwide.

----------------------------------------------------------------------

are they then allowed to exceed the production of 15,000 for that self same coin?

There have certainly been coins in the past that were advertised with a fixed mintage limit and that limit was later raised, I assume because the particular coin was selling better than anticipated.
