  1. I've been looking in a few places trying to work out what the edges were on crowns from 1821 onwards but can't quite seem to get it. It looks like there were reeded edges with no inscriptions in many years but what is unclear is if the various years with edge inscriptions had reeded edges or not (in the back of my mind some did but I'm sure some didn't too). Anyone know which edge inscribed years had reeded edges too? I'm mostly interested in 1887 onwards but I'm curious about the George IV crowns too.

    1887 Crown Faults

Hi members. I came across your site whilst researching the 1887 Crown faults. Does anybody have a list of what they actually are? In my case I have several coins in really good nick, but what surprised me is the possible variations of this coin. I don't get much time to get the glass out to see what I have in my collection, but today I happened to pick out one of the 1887 crowns and note the top of the 8 missing, the right side bottom serif of the 1 missing, bottom serif of D in D:G: missing, the trailing plume appears to have six lines, the milled edge is still quite sharp, the coin is in EF or probably better weighing 28 grms. Any comment will be appreciated

    Fake Crown or Not ?

Hi Im a newbie ! Just love coins and been really interesting reading about all the different things on here. I treasure hunt (with persmission !!) and have always been interested in the history of coins. Anyway, cut a long story short - Rob, our son, went to university and couldnt believe how expensive everything was so started dabbling in ebay. I now go to auctions (great fun !) to buy small items to put on and sell to keep him in food ! It also love it - so win win.!! This coin was in a collection of 3ds silver and alot of other collectibles. Fabulous coin I must say, I wish I could find one of these out treasure hunting - what a thrill. This is when i came across this site. I was researching it and I went cold when I saw how many are forged !! OMG I just did not realise. Im one of those "too honest for my own good" type of person (hubby is always saying) and there is no way I could sell this knowing it was a forgery. The reason Im suspicious is that it only weighs 27 g. Now I know its a kitchen scales, but still it should be 28.3 ! Can anyone just have a quick look at it and tell me whether its ok or not ? I would be really grateful !! Thanks H

  6. Hi everyone, I have recently purchased this 1902 crown. I need help with the grade & value, because... The coin unfortunately features a few edge knocks, so my question is: does this affect the grade - because grading, I have always been made to believe, is based on detail; and more importantly, how much does this affect the value? Here is the front:
