  1. I think Tony Clayton's 15g is a bit too round for a country still using grains, so I think his figure is a best estimate. I note that CCGB gives a reading of about 7.3g for a BoE 18d so doubling that would suggest about 14.6g for the 3 shilling. I suspect that the official reading was never recorded so the best we can do is take the readings from as many coins as possible, add a constant for wear against grade and come up with a best figure.
  2. Here's a picture, the coin in hand is a lot better even for gF my photos seem to remove all the life from coins and emphasis every poor quality. I'm pretty sure it is genuine as it came from a reputable dealer and for the price I paid, even if it was a contemporary counterfeit, I would be pleased.
  3. That's a lovely coin and beautiful toning, it puts mine in the spot but it explains why it's only 14.5 grms.
  4. If you look up Davies he says there was a gold 1841 sixpence with a half sov' obverse and sixpence reverse.
  5. Even to my very inexperienced eye the 2nd looks better than the first, the first clearly has some wear on the hair above the ear and the harp and middle lower lion on the obverse.
  6. I use the ring binder slip folders from SAFE, Linder also do a similar range they are both available from predecimal and are very reasonable. But ultimately I would like a cabinet for the really nice stuff.
  7. Here's a few more pictures of gun proof marks which, I hope are a bit more clearer than Ziggy's
  8. It's nice to see someone articulating something we all want to say, and the BBC as well!!
  9. Could anyone tell me if the coin on the left is a 1977 proof Crown, the right hand picture is from a regular Crown I brought in 1977, along with everyone else at the time, and has remained in it's little plastic Natwest box.
  10. I found it loose in a job lot of other Crowns in a junk/bric a brac/2nd hand shop, I was after the 1960 Crown so brought the lot, so I don't think it has had much of a Proof life (if it ever was). Only noticed the difference when I was trying to decide which would go into the album and which into the spares box.
  11. Has anyone seen coins crack like this before, they look like they are de-laminating , only effects one side. And thanks Non for showing me how to stich 2 photos together

Not something I would normally buy, but since I am a Seafarer thought I would indulge myself, and help the charity a bit.
