Looking for a 1953 2+A farthing (not the proof version)

I was looking for one for ages when Zo Arms kindly gifted me one last year, I still owe him for that.

    Edward Penny identification help needed

My mistake, florin is the third coinage your penny is almost certainly fourth coinage, treaty period inscription reads EDWARD ANGL R DNS HYB with, I think, a pellet before Edward which makes it a Spink 1625 or North 1265.

    Edward Penny identification help needed

I think it's a forth coinage "florin" penny of Edward III from the shape of the crown with open work above the band and annulet punctuation marks, minted in London.
  5. When I brought this 1961 half crown it was suggested it might be a polished planchet could never make my mind up if it was, anyone have any thoughts?

Advice on splitting proof sets for an album

1970 are so cheap I found a set in a cracked plastic case and broke it open and kept a second set sealed up.

    Ebay's Worst Offerings

Not just the 36 penny, see his other stuff 1977 crown £549.99!
  8. Yes the forgery is mine, I have 2 of them with exactly the same mark on Georges temple, which is what first aroused my suspicions , so someone must think they are worth the effort.
  9. I have taken a slight interest in Cypriot coins, I was born their. Be careful there are forgeries of these Crowns going around, yours looks ok Paddy see below an example the tell tale appears to be the "ding" on Georges temple.
  10. This https://tiranti.co.uk/products/brown-bronze-powder-100g/ should help explain how bronzing was achieved.

    Help With Denarius Identification

I think... the reverse is depicting, or trying to depict, the god Salus.
  12. At the time it was quite heavily advertised on British TV. I have tried to find the blurb that came with it to see if it mentions mintage numbers, but so far to no avail.
  13. Well to get the ball rolling, here's a London Mint issue from a couple of years back. They sold these as a "loss leader" at £20 to entice you to buy another half dozen coins at twice the price. But I liked the coin and as I am a Merchant Seafarer thought it was appropriate. I didn't buy the others and it was almost 2 years before London Mint stopped contacting me to "invite" me to buy the others in the series. But on the whole I think it is a good design and has been well engraved and minted.
  14. From the recent DNW auction lot 544 couldn't resist it at £65 plus extras. A standard 1858, but IMO a nice coin.
  15. In my local I have my Pewter tankard but if playing away from home then it's a Nonic Pint.
  16. It's the Association of Short Circuit Testing Authorities https://www.intertek.com/marks/asta/.
  17. I've got 7 1937's including a proof and they are all 1+A, as are all my 1938 (4) 1+B. ESC doesn't list such a variety but it does list a VIP proof and a matt sandblasted proof.

    New forest coin find

Spinks has HVIII VF Angels valued between 2 and 4 grand so 64 of them could be worth around £200,000. I'm more intrigued by who buried a load of Krugerrand's in the garden in the 70's and forgot about them!
  19. ok those images are terrible try these:-
  20. Well here's mine to add to the debate I am not going try and say if they are type I or II, or even if such a variety exist. From the left a boxed crown, one from a proof set, and on the right just a bog standard coin with green stuff.
  21. It's actually a very nice coin even without the attributes, and silly price.
  22. Can anyone tell me what material the 1949 NZ Crown was minted in. All the reference, I can find, state silver but with no further details of what standard of silver. I'm even a little skeptical if it is silver at all as NZ changed from 0.5 silver to CuNi in 1948 along with the UK.

    Photographing Coins

I think kaiser make the best copy stands, but they are expensive.
  24. I suspect there is some child somewhere that is going to be very disappointed, unless off course he/she is a coin collector.
