    Editing a post

    Thanks for the replies.
  3. There doesnt seem to be an edit option, or am I going blind. Also when creating a new post, there is no post preview function which would cut down the requirement for post editing Edit: Well thats weird, this post allows me to edit, but this post doesnt

    Fake two pound coin

Its difficult to say until we have a really good 600+ bpi scan. All these crappy phone pics are no use to man or beast.

    New pound coin

I think we are discussing whether the edge milling appears to the left of the hologram or not. Nothing to do with the centre. I may be wrong however.

    New pound coin

There is no point in showing just the bottom of the coin. Lets have a picture of the whole coin. Question. Dont you have a ruler or tape measure in your house? Thats all you need. I think you do, because I can see it to left of all your scans!

    New pound coin

I agree. It would be very useful if someone could measure to position of the centre relative to the coin rim.

    1905 penny 3rd type

I think you may be onto something Terry with the wavy E. Heres my poor contribution; Small zero on the left and has a wavy E! You are right to describe these as Small Zero as that really stands out when you eyeball them.

    1905 penny 3rd type

Nice find. A.R.Alexander together with A.M.Lisk had already found this variety and describe it in their April 1977 Coin Monthly article "Variants of the Modern British Penny 1895-1967" thus:- Minor Varieties 1. Reverse B with the 5 of the date close to the 0 (about 1/2mm gap). Alexander. 5 in 6 (83%). 2. Reverse B with 5 distant from o (nearly 1mm gap). Alexander. 1 in 6 (17%). Reverse B corresponds to Freeman F160. Dave Groom also describes this variety in his book.
  12. I must be a bit dim, but I thought that these new pounds were meant to be 12 sided. The examples shown seem to be round, with twelve straight bits on the inside of the rim.

    Proof sets 2000 - 2007

There is an excellent series of publications called "Collectors Coins" by the publisher "Rotographic" that give the RM prices for the various sets.
  14. He says that the Dg and Eg, both R9 had one ton of each produced, so 108,000 coins.
  15. Micheal Gouby lists seven distinct varieties of 1862 penny.

Unlike the BBC bias Peck? Socialists always fight among them selves unless they can find a common victim to demonize.
  17. Chris, I asked you before. Please delete my account.
  18. I see one or two of you have moved onto stage two. Justification.
  19. Pre 2009 decimals for me. Loads of interesting varieties to search out. An inexpensive and pleasurable hobby. Anyone who can rationalize spending thousands of pounds on a coin needs to visit a nut doctor.

I think those who make a huge number of posts should be culled. Lets say more than 200 posts per annum. There are also some "serial" "re-quoters" on here as well. Some topics are 95% re-quotes of earlier quotes. And finally there are the usual suspects, who add off topic asides. They are very irritating. I think Chris should monitor bandwidth and start charging when posters go over the limit. All proceeds, after a reasonable profit for Chris, should be redistributed to those who show posting restraint,

    Portcullis Varieties On Decimal Penny

Good spot, I've tweeked the jpg! With regard to studying coins, I tend to use a magnifying lamp, a hand held illuminated magnifyer or a scanner to compare details. A question for the forum experts. Why dont these pictures come out at full size rather than thumbs? I dont have problems on other forums that use the same software.

    Portcullis Varieties On Decimal Penny

Its all to do with the gap between the border bead and the lettering or border. I illustrated the gap between the bead and the border. Those that have a wider gap between bead and border have a narrower gap between bead and lettering, and vise verse. You will also not that the beads are also of a different size.

    New Ebay Fee Structure

I suppose it depends on your rate! As for agents saying the client really wants permanent people. Well that just their way of pushing down your cut. Dont ever go back being permanent. It doesnt work. Trust me on this! Just as an aside, I had a call the other day from a lady from the sub continent inquiring if I would be interested if a gig in Glasgow. Apparently the client really wanted a permie so the rate would be £40k pa for a two year fixed contract. Seeing as how I am only one of about a dozen grunts in the UK with the skill set, I said I thought that £800 per day would be more like it. The phone went dead. Whats that all about? Anyway, I didnt want to be stuck in Glasgow when the border went up!
