  1. Just ordered this from E bay - https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/NEW-INNOVATIONS-ANTI-SLIP-JEWELLERY-MAKING-MAT-SIZE-23cm-x-30cm/254579385914?hash=item3b461d263a:g:TggAAOSwsiBepDMN Might be useful for anyone who needs a small coin inspection table mat. Also nice background for coin photography too😎 All the best, Weaver(wayne)
  2. Interesting suggestion, but it might be a little bouncy.😆 I was thinking of something with fabric pile y'know? Velvet maybe? All the best, Weaver(wayne)

    Ebay's Worst Offerings

Man, I have got soooo much to learn because I didn't spot that as a fake at all. I knew that it wasn't in much of a collectible grade, but I never thought it would be a counterfeit or replica coin. I'm learning from you guys!😎 Cheers, Weaver (wayne)

So it's 'clearly' a fake coin right?

    Ebay's Worst Offerings

Forgive me, but can you list the problems with the coin listed on e bay please? I ask so I can add to my knowledge bank. I mean, I see several edge knocks and am I right that it's been harshly cleaned? Cheers, Weaver (wayne)
  6. I'm a fair newbie like yourself theoder, and the biggest lesson I have learned from key members of this community is this... Always check the coin for fine hairlines in your hand preferably, but if you can't personally look at the coin in hand, then ask for close up photos of the obv and rev. Fine hairline scratches across the surface (usually in the same direction) suggest that a coin has been cleaned or polished at some point. A cleaned or polished coin is less desirable to collectors, so the value is much less. Just something to bear in mind for the future my friend ok? All the best, Weaver (wayne)
  7. Hi everyone, I recently acquired a 1966 (67) Spanish 100 Pesetas coin for £6 which is supposed to be 0.800 Silver right? Well this one looks like very shiny Gold? Almost like it's been electro-plated with gold leaf? 🤨 Have I been diddled?? Or has the coin toned to a Golden hue? Your opinions please... Cheers, Weaver(wayne)
  8. Thanks Rob and Diaconis for your support 👍 Cheers, Weaver(wayne)
  9. It's all soo strange. The postscript to this story is that the seller has offered me a full refund and stated that they thought the coin was a bit suspect due to it's 'odd colour' 🧐 Hmmmmm? Is this coin destined for the bin people? Cheers, Weaver(wayne)
  10. Hi Diaconis, Just weighed it and 19g exactly. I'm confused now. Cheers, Weaver(wayne)
  11. Thanks Diaconis. Modern restrike perhaps? Cheers, Weaver(wayne)
  12. Thanks Rob, but it seems in terms of BV value alone that I haven't lost out on the deal right? Cheers, Weaver(wayne)
  13. Forgive my naivety Rob, I assumed that if indeed the coin was gilded that it would be rendered useless or less desirable? Also, I didn't know if it was actually silver or not, hence the question about being diddled. I was concerned that it might have been a nickel-brass fake. Why would the coin be gilded? Cheers, Weaver(wayne)
  14. Good day knowledgeable ones 😁 Ok, so I managed to acquire about 60 x new old stock Lindner capsules in mixed sizes (still boxed) but no foam inserts 😢 These sheets of foam ring inserts are available on Ebay - click here But are they safe? Your opinions please... Cheers, Weaver(wayne)
  15. Hey Sword or anyone, what size Quad will I need for a modern £5 Crown? Is it 39mm? Or 38mm? Cheers, Wayne
  16. Hi everyone, Just been sorting through my old Victoria penny collection and saw something odd about the date on this 1895 coin. My photo shows a Penny with standard size date on top of the possible variation. Is there a known variety where the 5 is one dentical further apart from the 9 ? Thank you all in advance for any confirmatory replies... Stay Safe! Weaver (wayne)
  17. Good evening all. Can someone tell me where I can purchase Quadrums in pick 'n' mix sizes instead of boxes of 10 in a single size? Any links to Amazon would be most welcome as I have a gift card to use up 🤗 Thanks everyone, Weaver (wayne)

Quadrums - where to buy pick 'n' mix sizes

This is interesting... I emailed Colin Cooke to ask if their paper coin envelopes were 100% acid-free, and their representative Lee Brownson replied... I cancelled my order! Weaver(wayne)

Thanks Sword. That's a good way of selecting what storage option in relation to grade. Cheers, Weaver(wayne)

    Ebay's Worst Offerings

Yes my friend, the Help and Care building. Pop in any time on a Wed to say hello (after Covid) ok? We could look in a few of the antique stores further up the road. All the best, Weaver(wayne)

Quadrums - where to buy pick 'n' mix sizes

And those are 100% genuinely acid-free envelopes yeah? And out of interest bagerap, do you store all metal types of coins (and medals of course) in them? All of my collection is circulated, so I am now leaning towards acid-free envelopes. Basically, I want the safest possible long term storage option. Thoughts... Cheers, Weaver(wayne)

Quadrums - where to buy pick 'n' mix sizes

Thanks guys! Once I have sold the current accumulation (hoard) I want to start afresh with a new focused collection and upgrade to Quads. But... I am happy with paper envelopes too! Has anyone got a link to a trusted seller of genuinely acid free paper envelopes? Preferaly via Amazon because I really would like to use my gift voucher on coins ☺️

Quadrums - where to buy pick 'n' mix sizes

So.... For circulated early (1841-45) Victorian copper in about VF+... Intercepts or standard Quads? Cheers, Weaver(wayne)

Quadrums - where to buy pick 'n' mix sizes

Thanks Kev. I notice he will do a mixed size box of 100 which is more than I need but not by much. There also used to be the option to buy single Quads for about £1.50 a piece I believe? Cheers! Weaver(wayne)

Quadrums - where to buy pick 'n' mix sizes

I see that you converted to Quads back in 2016 Sword. Like you were back before 2016, I am currently using self-adhesive hartberger coin holders and want to upgrade to Quads. Can you confirm again about the sizes. If I have a 31.45mm dia coin what Quad do i need? What about a 17.91mm coin? Cheers, Weaver(wayne)
