I'm not trying to disparage any dealers validity, or anything, I have a lot to learn, but this thread confirms more what I thought bronzed proofs typically looked like, so with that said, I had wondered about these two 1806 proofs (these do not have imperfect 1 and 0, obv), as they looked less like I thought bronzed proofs might. Granted photos can dramatically alter coin appearances, but curious on others' thoughts.  I'm just trying to learn, so pardon the ignorance.

I'll upload across a couple more comments, as site's being finicky.

I think Colin Cooke should be reliable.

At the time of buying the coin, Barker, of Hull, said he was “over the moon” when he discovered how unique it was.

So, how unique is it ? Rather unique ? Quite unique ? Very unique ? A trifle unique ?

I'm afraid that the word "unique" is going the way of "literally" and "amazing" - i.e. becoming meaningless.

    The US "unique" - i.e. ten a penny. ;)

I truly can't get my head round why an experienced and respected seller of such long standing is trying to pass a "copy" - modern fake, for £155.

I've always thought torcoins was a complete shyster. Exorbitant prices for genuine coins, but this does take the biscuit.

You don't find this collectable do you!?

Only from the point of view that this is the first coin I have used in a domestic transaction with a monarch other than The Queen.

Apart from that it's just as collectible as any other 50p to me. If I come across a commemorative I keep them but I have little interest in modern mint issues. The quality of our coins has taken a real nosedive in the last 20 years. I mean, Paddington? F****** Paddington?

I wonder why in the age of the algorithm some bright spark at ebay does not list a range of all the reported and or rare coins by date and type and when they get listed they get looked at and questioned.?

Are you kidding? ebay tacitly encourages the selling of fakes by paying no more than lip service to their "policing". They don't care what sells, as long as it sells and they make money.

Quite by chance I came across Paddy on another forum (this one) - different username but same photo he used on here. I notice that he was last active there on 16.1.22, a day before he was last active on here, 17.1.22.

Sadly one can only conclude that he either had an extremely abrupt and spectacular loss of interest in coins, or something has happened to him.

Last activity on Coin Talk 17/1/22 too. :(

Here is an interesting one I found the other day , a strange odd looking attempt to replicate the model half sovereign.  I purchased it but it has not arrived yet so cannot look at in in detail
