  1. I was in Rome a few years ago for Italy v England in the 6 Nations. They had beer wallahs walking up and down the steps to save you going to the bar. As it (Stadio Olympico) is primarily a football ground they'd been told to pour the beer from the cans into the waiting plastic glasses. The bloke on duty near us got bored and just started passing out 4 packs. Nothing got thrown, it and we got drunk. They had great big perspex screens separating sections of the crowd - presumably to stop me giving some Italian fella a cuddle at half time? I went out with an England flag and came home with an Italian one. Cracking day out, never a hint of trouble. Football fans are (largely) an embarrassment.

    Halfpenny ID check

I hate it too, but if you cart it about in your pocket with the rest of your change for about a year you can take the shine off it and make it look a bit better. I'd have kept it, but then I keep everything.

Advice on splitting proof sets for an album

My preference is nice acid-free 2x2 envelopes. I've never liked flips but that's what they arrived in so I left them.

Advice on splitting proof sets for an album

Most people seem to think Mylar's fine but I'd never use it again for anything. Good job these were cheap!

Advice on splitting proof sets for an album

Personally I wouldn't. I had these stored in a 2x2 mylar flip (as delivered from the seller) and now they're considerably impaired.

    Ecgberht Penny, North 589

I think it looks better repaired too, and it appears to have been done quite nicely.

    Ecgberht Penny, North 589

As I don't collect hammered, is the repair acceptable or would it have been better left?

    PMD or something more?

Thanks all. Random vandalism seems the most likely then.

    PMD or something more?

They appear, to me at least, to be contemporary. I appreciate all of this is speculation, of course.

    PMD or something more?

Yes, it's not very accidental is it?
