  2. Hello everybody! First, sorry for my poor English, I'm from the Netherlands so please be gentle... In my collection I have some Model 1 penny's in a very good state. Today I was looking at them when 1 coin looked strange. The coin has an extra letter E in the word "penny". I can not find any information about it. Has anybody got more information? Sorry for the poor pics, just made them with an Iphone... Best regards, The Dutch guy. Ps: I could not find a space to introducé museale properly so of anybody wants more info, shoot!

X#10 Model is the one with the extra E? If so, it is correct in my opinion because it is a listen error.

Penny Model 1 error (extra E)

Update: According the company who sends them to PCGS the coin is MS63 and with some luck MS64. I will be happy if it grade MS62. 2 november the coin will be back in the Netherlands. CGS is a grader we don't use here or on the forums I'm at. Thats the reason I chose PCGS.

The Penney is on it's way to PCGS. I really like the history of this coin and want it to be safe. (I love to handle my coins haha) Fingers crossed for a good grade

Thanks John and PGA, I have read somewhere that people slab coins in the UK at a specialised slabbingcompany wich is not NGC or PCGS. This would be better for the market but I personaly preffer NGC and PCGS because I know them. Sending this coin to the Londcoins auctionhouse would be problematic too I think. I prefer handig over Coins in person but the UK is just a bit of a long drive What does everybody think: Just slab it for preservation and then think again about the whole thing? The coin is in a very good state so is it whise to let it slab. What would you do?

Yes we call it de VOC over here. This is why I like coins. Al the history of your country in a single little piece of metal and all the nice people on the forums. The Dutch "duiten" as we call them are indeed very cheap even at highest grades. In the same time period there where more nice Coins in circulation like the zilveren rijder (silver rider, 6 stuiver) or the dubbele stuivers (silver 2 s pieces) The silver pieces where struck in the millions so for a few euro's you can buy them. The copper ones Scott showed van be purchased at even power prices but good and rare pieces can fetch prices that will go in triple diggits. About the Penny with the extra E. Does someone has an idea about the mintage, I want to know if its rare enough to be slabbed for the future. Because my interest is more at other coins, is there a marker dor this Penny? Best regards

Penny Model 1 error (extra E)

No not that much. I collect guilders and old ducats from the Netherlands. (But the older pieces are just too expensive) I also love the old VOC coins, just because of the bizarre history. But sometimes I just buy something I like, Morgan dollar, some old Thaler from Austria and now this strange penny. Love the history of these older coins!

Well look at that... I paid 16 euro for 2 of those penny's. Only one with the extra E. Whas that a good deal? How rare would you call this specific coin? Those penny's are not the coins I normally buy but they looked very interesting to me. Best regards,
