It is back up again and has bids this time: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Hammered-Silver-Coin-LVN-DONIA-CIVIT-EFLBERHT-REX-/262222475840?hash=item3d0dad7240:g:4EIAAOSwSdZWhCR9

Welcome Frank, being relatively new myself I can tell you that you have done the right thing joining here. Two of the best bits of advice I have had from members here were buy the book before the coin and buy the highest grade you can, EF and up where budgets allow. I can recommend the books Chris publishes here as a great starting point for learning about grades and ball park figures on prices. Just check the shop on the main predecimal page.

Thanks Stuntman, that was an ebay bargin, partially down to the fact the seller (who is 'well known' for toned coins) had taken some pictures of the coin that I did not believe relected what it actually looked like. Having seen some of their ebay pictures versus what their coins look like in hand at coin fairs I was confident it was not as bad as the picture made out. It is not EF but it is vertainly a gVF and I got it for about £50! -

They are sealed from what I understand and you need to use force to get them open. -
This, along with the other CGS/slab threads make an interesting read. As a newbie I can see the attraction of having someone look over your coin and independently grade it hopefulyl validating what you believe its grade is so much so I am considering submitting 3 or 4 of my coins. One of my over riding concerns was not that fact that something may get rejected (I am learning, it will happen) but that it will get rejected and slabbed. If it was made clear on any submission that you did not want any coin rejected to be slabbed would they honour your request?

It's getting there for sure. I need to upgrade a few already and would like some more 1816 to mid Victoria stuff in there when the budget allows. -

So I have not updated this for a while. I have been mainly focusing on Halfcrowns and have added a few to my collection via people off here (thank you Sound, Paulus) coins fairs and the dreaded ebay. The link is in my signature takes you to my site but his is the link straight to my Halfcrowns as it stands. I would welcome any feedback, I know not all coins there are EF+ but some have them have been purchased at very good prices in my opinion for the grades that they are. -
Very sorry to hear that, words cannot express how you must be feeling right now. My condolences to you and your family.
-
I only recently started collecting Dan but am finding the hobby a real pleasure. I am trying to focus on Halfcrowns but as you saw on my penny post I keep getting distracted The people here are in the main helpful, everyone I have spoken directly to has been happy to reply, comment and offer advice.

Thanks guys, Jamie is on the case with it, I have seen via one of his facebook posts that his has contacted the seller.

1p 2p 5p 10p 20p for me so far. -
I agree but the way it read was that they Quadrums were in stock here. I had previosuly checked, saw they were not here and ordered elsewhere. I, wrongly, took your post as an indication that Chris now stocked the Quadrums.
-
Has someone got the link to the Quadrums on here then please as I cannot find them. Thanks

It is slightly cheaper to buy driect from his site http://www.coingallery.co.uk/
