  1. Scarce coins those. Good job Dave. Picked this coin up this afternoon. It's got nice mirror like obverse. Some hairlines on the portrait but will fetch at least a MS62RB through PCGS. The coin is available for a swap (identical grade and identical Freeman rarity). Sorry I should have said available for swap after it returns from PCGS.
  2. Some lovely coin but rather optimistic pricing as far as I am concerned. Thanks for the headsup. Hope you found something thing you wanted.

You are on holiday and pick up a local newspaper to find Canada has sold all its gold??? Really??? Surely this is Soviet propaganda or is it??? Where is BBC? Obviously nothing to report on the matter I presume.
  4. Not surprised, but then is Scott not the King of Bargains? ? True! £1000 seems like the threshold for varieties. The ONF from the Elstree Collection fetched £600 or so. Bargain me thinks or is it really when you consider 3 die numbered pennies exchanged hands for under £1000 in the last month or so alone? Rich, I got your message but the messaging facility works pants on my tab. I will respond with the pictures when I reach London.
  5. Kosher it is ? I just found it amazing that an R18 coin would go for 99p. Back in 2003 I purchased a similar specimen for £400. At the same time I also picked up a f41 and a 1882 London mint penny for about the same price. The 1882 I had slabbed and it achieved a CGS 3 if I recall correctly. The coin is currently with Guy F and after changing hands it realised £1400 (?), I believe or that is what Guy paid for (a couple of years back) it from what I gather. All these are pretty rare coins but the 1861 is not something everyone's looking for and as quite a few forum members have pointed out the demand, for varieties as far as the pennies is concerned, is rather subdued at the moment. To be fair the coin ain't a stunner and perhaps as you say anyone looking perhaps had a better specimen.

Was reading the Wikileaks cable on Gold price manipulation, some food for thought that. https://wikileaks.org/plusd/cables/09BEIJING1134_a.html People who try market manipulation need to be taught about risk (because manipulation will not work forever). 9. Not on all the rare pennies but a few. I will fetch my notes and send it over to you but I am sure you will find it quite dated.

  11. In response to all the messages I''ve received about the 1934 penny I thought perhaps I should post this information on this thread for the benefit of all. First off, Terry, congratulations on the 2 no wave 1934s that you possess, it’s a fairly rare coin. The coin I gave for grading is not the one from ‘The Workman Sale’. Mine is the 3rd coin that I am aware of for this variety. Here is a list of all the 1934 no wave pennies that I know of a) Workman sale Part II lot 107 (XF) – fetched £500 + bidder premium (25th Nov 2010) b ) A forum member (perhaps Scott?) has a 1934 no waves penny on his Omni site (VF) – no price info (2011) - http://www.omnicoin.com/coin/996048 c) My coin acquired from The Lymington Saleroom (VF) - £400 (2013) d) Terry’s specimen (VF ) – no price info (acquired ???) e) Terry’s specimen (XF ) – no price info (acquired ???) The UINs for the coins I gave to have slabbed are as follows, though I’d doubt the pictures have been fed into the database yet 0038916 – 1875 Cannon Ball – F http://www.coingradingservices.co.uk/?uin=0038916&page=coin_verification&Submit=Verify 0038917 – 1862 VIGTORIA – Fair http://www.coingradingservices.co.uk/?uin=0038917&page=coin_verification&Submit=Verify 0038918 – 1934 No Waves – VF http://www.coingradingservices.co.uk/?uin=0038918&page=coin_verification&Submit=Verify PS : My holiday season starts in a week or so and I won’t be able to respond in timely fashion. But drop me a mail for anything urgent and I will respond when I am in a wi-fi hotspot, which could be once a week or so. Enjoy.

Pleasure's all mine. Sorry Rich I've given it to CGS for grading so I cant get you a picture. In the next few weeks it should show-up on their database and I'll post the UIN then.
  13. Yorkshire, which is not too far off where you are is a good place to find dealers. Take your collection to more than one dealer before selling anything. Google Wakefield Coin Fair, you will fine many dealers and representatives from auction-houses in the fair. If I am not mistaken then there is one at the end of this month. Take pictures of some of the older coins in the collection and post them on this forum for the blokes here to give you a finger in the air figure. There is also a coin shop in Edinburgh (very close to the uni www.edinburghcoinshop.co.uk) and if I am not mistaken the dealers there are Hiram and Jerry. 14. Aha yes that's the bunny Matt.
  15. Sometime back we discussed the ONF (4+D) pennies. This specimen (http://www.londoncoins.co.uk/?page=Pastresults&auc=152&searchlot=2364&searchtype=2) is a clear case of both the E's (on ONE and PENNY) wearing down. On the 4+Ds both the Es have been re-cut at some point. However on the 5+D the E in PENNY is strong and hence has not been recut. If anyone comes across a 4+D with the Es showing-up as ONF and PFNNY respectively then please share a snap; I would be really interested. It's also intriguing to note the E over P happens on 4+D. Are these linked? Who knows?
  16. I have seen this dot below Y before. However it's been on a 1870 penny.

    I got outbid on all 4 lots I really wanted 4F, 1863 3 over 1, 1909 1 over tooth and the 1922. They fetched well over what I would've liked to pay. 2378 - Capped at £2600 - Fetched - £3000 2395 - Capped at £1300 - Fetched - £1400 2474 - Capped at £1500 - Fetched - £1700 2484 - Capped at £2900 - Fetched - £3800 On the plus side I did win 10 minor lots.

  21. First off I wouldn’t get too excited about this coin. I got it for £150 and I am pretty certain it’s not anything spectacular. The coin is slabbed NGC 62 BN which makes it difficult to photograph. The interesting thing is that there’s something around the 2, which induced me to take a punt. After inspecting the coin it looks like the line over the 2 might be incuse. In which case it could be a scratch at the right place for me to bonkers about a 2 over 1. The only way to be certain is to unslab it, which I don’t want to do. I don’t suppose this is a new variety or anything and for what we know it is a normal 1882 H but I like the coin

During my trading days my motto was to never short the falling dagger. Would be worth mentioning I was crap at the markets but I have been good with physical bullion. I am stocking on physical bullion again though the prices have rocketed. I see Briexit, US elections, negative interest rates and an overheated property market among other things as enough inspiration to take a plunge into physical bullion.
  23. I'd fill a gap (at a fair price) and then look to upgrade. But once I've acquired a specimen (in any grade) I will only be interested to upgrade to a mint state specimen (by paying over the odds if need be).
