    1841&1854 halfpennies variety

forgot to mention that the 1841 halfpenny has a raised dot or stop over the last 1 in the date and a close up of the 1854 halfpenny F for E in DEI [/url coin looks better and clearer in the hand Thanks Baz
  3. I have just checked a box full, 47 in all Victorian young head halfpennies i have had since the 1980`s and come across these two this is a known variety PECK 347 "lower limb of E missing in DEI and resembling an F and a scan of a 1854 halfpenny which apears to show the same variety cannot find any reference to the 1854 but is it a new variety? Thanks Baz

    1878 1/3rd Farthing Errors

impossible to tell with any certainty from your poor scan but going on what i can see it looks like variety A the dead giveaway on variety D is the backward curving tail to the 7 and N over I between and behind the legs of the N my example also shows traces of a G behind and slightly to the left of G of farthing if i remember correctly Michael Gouby noted this repair can only be seen on coins EF and above as for the crown i have 12 other examples of the 1878 third farthing and there is variation to the crown but not as pronounced as my shown example Thanks Baz
  5. When examining a 1978 Third Farthing i noticed the following varieties/errors...see scans below http://i147.photobucket.com/albums/r311/bazvogue/18781thirdfarthingIGUNDERNGOFFARTHING.jpg http://i147.photobucket.com/albums/r311/bazvogue/18781thirdfarthingBROKENCROWN.jpg In a recent Michael Gouby list he mentions 4 different reverses for this coin 1878 -1/3rd. Farthing 3 date varieties & 1 error repair Var. A Narrow date (2nd 8 below I of ING; 7 has flat base) Var. B Wider date (2nd 8 between IN of ING; 7 has flat base) Var. C Narrow date (Tail of 7 curls backwards, round base) Var. D As per Var. C - I or G error struck between NG of ING my coin seems to conform to variety D...with the added MIS-SHAPEN IMPERIAL CROWN for good measure But am i right? Thanks Baz
  6. A more likely and logical explanation would be a damaged die Thanks Baz
  7. Hi to all bought this 1799 Geo 111 farthing at a stamp fair last weekend from a dealer who also sells coins...is this known? swiped 6 or so scans of this coin and date and all have complete R in legend. Thanks Baz

    1772/1 Halfpenny

Hi to all, is my 1821 George 1111 1/4d. shown below showing a raised dot after the date a known variety? i have little or no interest in coins other than Queen Victoria issues for which i have some literature but no literature for any other reigns other than a woefully out of date Seaby`s Coins of England. It is my intention to check all my non Q.Vic stuff and see if i can put a price on it with a view to selling it off . Thanks Bazvogue i am going to check the 200 or so pre Queen Vic and god knows how much post Q.Vic copper with with a view to selling it off

    1772/1 Halfpenny

Thanks to Rob and Peter for the info on my George 1 1720/1 halfpenny I googled up Dr Nicholsons halfpenny collection and scanned the 2 examples listed I note that my example is slightly different in that the 2 in the date leans noticeably to the left towards the 7 and the foot of the 2 is longer and curved. Or could it be that my stamp collecting experience of looking at every stamp in the minuest detail for the slightest fly dirt (philatelic term) is not relevant when checking coins? Thanks Bazvogue

    1772/1 Halfpenny

Hi to all i am new to this forum but i am not new to coin collecting although my main hobby is stamp collecting Queen Victoria Commonwealth and Empire i do have a sizeable collection of Bitish copper coins from 1694 to the end of stirling issues mainly Victorian British Bronze and copper coins of which i have some knowledge. I am intrigued by these overstruck coins and i have this George 1 ha`penny overstruck 1720/1 shown below I can find no info on this coin anywhere is it a forgery? new unlisted variety? or ??? your thoughts please gentlemen Thanks Bazvogue
