It's reached over £168K now and the comments of the donors reflect the views of so many people regarding the leniency shown to the career criminals. No doubt they had a difficult childhood and are beautiful boys at heart. In fact, one of them when being arrested and asked if there was anyone who should be informed of his arrest, nominated his pregnant girlfriend and, when asked her date of birth, replied that he had no idea. Compulsory sterilisation crosses my mind.

Given that the estimate was £10-12K, I imagine that the reserve was somewhat higher than £5.5K but, if so, why start so low ?
Is that a "come and get me" starting level ?
In the same sale, here's an example of a coin that didn't meet its reserve although it did have a bid, so I assume that no bids means no bids, to paraphrase Theresa May.

I think there's a growing feeling that justice is not being seen to be done in many cases in this country, and that we are soft on serial offenders. The fact that prison sentences, even if they are actually given, are only ever half-served annoys the hell out of me. It would be satisfying if this case generates enough momentum to cause change, but I'm not holding my breath.

I find the most enraging aspect is that the culprits suffered no legal punishment and even worse, that they may make financial gain from the episode.

Did anyone watch this programme last Monday ?
It featured a man who chased 2 burglars from his house in his car before colliding with them on their stolen motorbike causing them injuries. They were career criminals who were merely given suspended sentences (because it would be difficult for them in jail) whilst he was given a 22 month prison sentence. That caused his wife to terminate her pregnancy and they've had to move away. His defence costs were over £50K but a GoFundMe page has now raised almost £150K.
Oh yes, and the scumbags are now sueing him for damages.
It certainly pays to be a criminal in Britain these days.

No bids

It was publicised in Coin News.

I'm surprised that there were no bids for that nice 1922 F192A yesterday - it's one of the best of a really rare bunch.

yes, that's the man. We exchanged emails for a while and I thought the book was imminent but I've heard nothing for over a year.

Yes, it's John Jerrams but he seems to call himself Stephen on communications. On a separate note, someone (Bill somebody) last year was preparing a new digital update of John's Bun Penny book but it has never surfaced.

Wide and narrow dates, Rob ? Tut tut - it's large and small dates we geeks are talking here.

I've been watching this and surprised it hasn't been snapped up - scarce-ish coin.

I believe it is a superimposition although I can't be sure as I didn't record the origins of the picture.

OK - I've found it on page VP1 in the obverse description. I would say that this is an error in that:
either Michael meant to include "away from edge" on every obverse D in order to differentiate them from obverse E which is definitely "close to edge".
Or, he accidentally copied it from the obverse DE below which is (like Obverse D) also away from the edge.
I certainly wouldn't expect the V over inverted A to be different from any other obverse D coins.
Do you have a particular coin that you are looking at in hand ?

Rob
I'm not sure where you found that JB has the signature in a different place. As you say, they are all obverse D (Freeman 2).
I agree about the Je to Jk repairs. I'm assuming that collectors have sent in photos of these repairs to Michael who decided to include them, purely for illustration. The list of die repairs is virtually endless and I personally don't regard them as particularly noteworthy, other than the occasional spectacular example, e.g. N over Z, E over P etc.
Clearly, these repairs are of interest to some collectors, viz Larry's numerous examples of similar repairs on halfpennies on this Forum.

The LCA specimen next month should be much cheaper.

Should I be doing anything special with my used printer ink cartridges, or can I just put them in the non-recycleables bin ?
They're from non-branded suppliers rather than printer manufacturers.

And the more the courts show undue leniency to criminals, the more an aggrieved householder is likely to overreact in the heat of the incident.
