I was wondering that. I've 'won' five but four are at my max so not sure if I've really won them or lost out to someone in the room?
  3. Absolutely. Seasonal agricultural roles in Lincolnshire would be one example where the Poles do the work the locals don't want to do (This has been covered in several TV documentaries where the locals don't want to do this kind of work). Unfortunately they spend very little in the local economy where the UK locals would do, instead they send if back to Poland. That said, we all benefit with cheaper food prices and cheaper services if immigrants do perform a lot of these menial tasks. Your London hotel room bill would be higher if they didn't employ these people. Love or loathe the tories at least their 'make work pay' attitude is trying to reverse the benefits are a lifestyle choice mentality created by the Blair / Brown government.
  4. Another interesting read. I wonder how much your typical 'Britain First / lets kick em all out 'cos they've taken all our jobs' type contributes? http://www.cityam.com/213058/eu-immigrants-contribute-463-second-uk-economy
  5. Oh the UK isn't doing too bad. We're still have the fifth biggest economy in the world despite being a tiny island. Remaining in doesn't mean that there will be a big free for all. You also need to understand that everyone of us is currently benefiting from immigration here in the UK. https://www.ucl.ac.uk/news/news-articles/1114/051114-economic-impact-EU-immigration

    Does anyone know what these went for? 2711 1860 Florin 2724 1883 Florin 3302 1842 Shilling 3303 1852 Shilling 3306 1856 Shilling 2652 1887 Double Florin 3547 1855 Sovereign
  7. Does anyone else collect these? As there are not too many versions available I'd like one of every type including proof. Please post pictures of yours if you have any. In the meantime, you've guessed what I'm going to ask you all! I'm saying EF. I've stopped short of of gEF as there are a couple of obvious marks on the obverse which stand out, as well as other marks and wear on both sides. I disagree completely with the seller that it's UNC. What are your thoughts?
  8. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/1889-4-Victoria-silver-Double-Florin-in-a-lovely-lustrous-aUNC-/151981977397?hash=item2362d4ef35:g:LPQAAOSwZG9WlrB5 This looks cleaned to me too. Any thoughts?

    LCA auction

Just out of interest, when will the march results be posted online? I've not had confirmation back that my bids were received from last nights email despite being told by email that there is a 10 am cut off time today???
  10. In. I'm both an employee and business owner. Being in benefits the business and my employer, one of the worlds largest financial institutions had made it very clear how we will benefit from being in. So it's an easy decision for me. Whatever happens though, it's very much for the individual to play the hand they have been dealt.

My mistake. It's DNW where VAT is payable on the buyers premium.

    LCA auction

Just sent my email. I'm focussing a lot more on the upcoming DNW auction though. You have to pay 17% on the hammer price and vat @ 20% on that 17%. So a coin selling for £100 hammer price will actually cost you £120.40 + delivery. This additional premium is sometimes referred too as 'juice'. Hope that helps.

@ Non, you can have it delivered to you. @ Nordle. This is correct. Though bear in mind, if you were buying coins or bars from somewhere like Bullionbypost.com the delivery and insurance charges are still factored into the cost of the bullion, despite being advertised as 'free delivery'.

Sorry Non, I've not explained myself very well. Bullionvault (Bear in mind I'm no expert) holds physical gold in vaults which you pay for. The premiums you pay over spot are much lower than buying coins and bars etc. You pay the same premium if buying one gram or one kilo! You also don't have the security issues you may have storing large amounts of bullion at home etc, and you can liquidate your stock immediately 24 / 7 / 365 as people place orders to buy constantly. Hope that makes sense?
  15. It really doesn't look like the proofs I have seen to be honest.

Physical bullion? Or a service such as the previously mentioned www.bullionvault.com?

Shorting HSBC. The shares go ex div very soon so will be making some decisions very soon. Bullion has rocketed recently, so looks less attractive as we've already seen big gains.

He is. The listing will be pulled if anyone were to report it. Sad but true.

Well I made massive mistake in regards to Glencore. I too put my money where my mouth was after buying HSBA I dived in with GLEN after seeing some movement as I didn't want to get caught out. The first mistake was only buying 50% of what I thought about and second even bigger mistake was not hiding the contract note from my mrs! They've flown in recent days and are now at £118.40 as I type. Not sure whether to sell or not at present. HSBC's results are out on the 22nd so will be watching those with interest.

    MS 64?

I have to agree here. I've noticed a few 'higher grade' coins looking very expensive on ebay. Buyers can always message the seller and make an offer. Being polite, respectful and giving reasons why your offer is what it is can only help. If they're unhappy with an offer they can just say no etc.

    £1.... 2000 SILVER PROOF MINT.

Will take it Pete, to take a look at one of these. Thanks.
  22. Great coins gents. I've had the pictures of the coin in the opening post on my large desktop screen earlier. I think the obverse is still EF. But I've compared the reverse with the picture in the standard guide to grading British coins book. Looking at page 201 the English lions and crowns resemble the AU picture more than the EF picture which shows wear not seen on the actual coin in question. However there are some marks on one of the scepters. I'm going on pictures only, but am now leaning to obverse - EF, reverse -a/UNC. So, in your opinion is the REVERSE a/UNC due to minimal wear or do the marks in the scepter knock it down to EF? On topic, never seen one of these before... http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Collectable-silver-1887-Queen-Victoria-Jubilee-18-Double-florins-coin-chain-/381529851447?hash=item58d4f38637:g:qiMAAOSwqYBWpiI1
  23. As per my other thread really. Hypothetical question, of which I do have an interest though... If you were wanting to start a collection of victorian shillings, which years would be :- The most reasonable in terms of price? The easiest to find? The most desirable? Finally, how common are these in gEF and UNC?
  24. That's a nice coin Paulus. Just out of interest, what light did you photograph that in?
