  1. Maybe pensioners saving can have a stock in government owned and newly privatized company and have their reprsentative elect, pensioner and all their savings dont know what will be the rate of interest per day, maybe they can acqire one hospital etc.

Penson and health insrance in one with yearly medical general consltation or medical test.

  2. Yes, I was just reading about it in a different thread! A lot of money for a 100+ year-old lump of iron (did you ever post images?), selling for significantly more than its silver brethren!

Why did they strike some in iron, when others were struck in silver, etc. seems like a crude material for such an impressive pattern?

There are other metals as well. Private patterns means you can do what you want - as indeed can the RM.

I think I posted an image somewhere.

What was the primary purpose of a private pattern? Was it a private submission to a Royal Mint commission for a currency coin?

Usually. You have to remember that contracts were given out worldwide for currency, so any coin would show the engraver's/manufacturer's competence. Some were popular despite being rejected by the RM such as Moore's model pennies and halfpennies to the extent that they had to publicly disclaim them.

    Another box ticked! Thanks, Rob!

Who owned the artistic image in the coin or note?the artist the engaver or the mint?

  3. Bust 6 by any chance?

That would be James I of England and Bust 6 of Scotland?

Probably referring to James I's sixth bust on his English issues. A large, detailed bust - just what I look for.

Im not into old coinage it is to far for me.

Like the history, time to time found new things.

More to dig more things found, the more or longer process, its like endless.

Bust 6 seen in the web have One lion, three lion, harp, iris.

    No tower or eagle.

  4. To many books weary.

There are many expert in this forum in their own field most have website, others writers and author, from time to time new discovery is listed in CCGB.

Just a comment they can rewrite or make a new reference book if they choose.

  5. Just wanted to let everyone know that I've been getting a suspended user page when I go to the GBforums hosted by Hussolo and now got some sort of hacker screen showing up....

I also just went to retrieve an email from OnlineCoins and they look like they might have been hacked also..

Hus's hosting site told him a short while ago that they would stop hosting in 6 months, but then shut it down fairly promptly. That is why the account suspended page came up. It was based in Egypt apparently.

According to an email he sent me a week or so ago, he is trying to get the forum contents onto another hosting site with all the data intact. That is why it disappeared.

    Ah

I thought I had done something wrong. ;)

    I also thought of that.

Before they will block most account they do give warning to members didnt recieve any,so I did search in the web for any other reason.

Coinsgb is down also Euroswapper is downsizing I think?

Maybe next time I will edit and print other good thread in other forum just in case, the library is still standing but other forum is having difficulties, hope other will still last, just a comment.

  6. Does not appear the specimen. I have seen the other specimen 6d of 1924, part of the set. I think this may be on the www.HA.com archives from about 6-8 yrs ago (the whole set including the "wondrous" 1922 rev. 1927 penny).

Yours looks well struck and to be an early strike of what should most likely be a 0.500. coin.

That just takes me to the home page. Do you have a URL to that particular item, or at least, sale?

    Just posting.

  7. Two things occur to me:

Is there a resource anyone knows of where you can see high res photos of various grades to compare your prize possessions against? If for example the dies on small coins like this didn't produce anything better than my example then there wouldn't be anything better out there I guess (rim knocks and bag marks aside!)

When selling I like to be completely open and honest, the last thing I want is a disgruntled buyer ... but would it really make sense to supply very high res photos that magnify tiny imperfections that would not otherwise be detected? After all, as some have observed, you wouldn't expect to examine 400mm pictures of a crown (or would you?), and if you did all sorts of things might show up!

    Just a comment.

Grading companies US and GB may have photo preservation of graded coins and there pop report???

Pictures from members here who sold coins or dealers and members and their coin collection.

  8. Are you saying that any amount of weakness does not affect the grade? For example, what grade would you give for this 1921 halfcrown which has very little wear but is very weakly struck.

It all depends how you grade. Some people downgrade weak strikes, but I would find that confusing - better IMO to mention the weakness in the grade, e.g. UNC weak strike on shield

I would agree that weak strike should not affect the technical grade, but be aware of people trying to explain away wear with the justification fo a weak strike.....however having said that, a weak strike will usually affect the price, because it always more favourable to have a well struck example

Unless of course all (or virtually all) the coins of a particular denomination struck in a particular year are weak (1920 pennies spring to mind).

Agreed, to both. Weak strikes will command lower prices, just as early strikes attract a premium. Unless ALL or MOST such coins are weak (in addition to 1920 pennies, there are the reverses of 1907 pennies, the obverses of 1919H pennies, the reverses of 1917 sixpences, the reverses of 1895YH farthings, etc etc).

    Just a comment

    Expert in grading.

    Predecimal Grading and co.

    Settling others opinion???

  9. The reverse has no discernible wear and what looks like full lustre - I'd give that UNC. The obverse has a few light flattened points - I'd give that GEF. So, GEF/UNC. (The reverse is always better than the obverse on that series, right up until 1926 - unless the coin is truly UNC of course!)

There are many grading expert in this forum not me.

Experts here can make a physical authentication and grading coins approve or mark by Red Riely and others.just a comment.

  10. Don't be surprised if some quite serious people are talking about a World Currency and a World Central Bank in 12 months time.

    Be afraid.

Give to where the credit is due.

World Currency,World Central Bank,World single Stock Market???

In low grade metal coins, and Fiat banknote IOU.

What a time in this world.

  11. I accept that there are different views on this, but what I find difficult to swallow are the two Edwards, Millibandwagon and Balls (a short description as much as a name), saying that they would have done 'better for Britain' than DC on Thursday night. Though never actually offering a single alternative strategy. It's much the same with Nick 'have you got a job for me Dave' Clegg. Over the last few months the ardent Europhiles have discovered that their pan-European dream is about as workable as a beachwear business at the north pole and frankly have nowhere to hide their embarrassment.

As i said, let the people of the UK decide instead of the muppets who have been in power for the last 20 years or more, they're all as bad as one another, but as you can see, even opinion on here is divided, so i guess it would be a tight vote.

    Poll?

    Just a comment.

Dont know for now whose cornering or encircling who GB Mint,BOE,IMF or rest of Commonwealth single currencies or Commonwealth central bank???,USA mint, federal reserve,EU mints and central banks and ECB and whose currency weigh most,Ill go to sterling there weight in it.
