  1. William Williams’ London (Middlesex) copper Conder halfpenny token dated 1795. Obverse: The arms of the City of London with legend: “FEAR GOD AND HONOUR THE KING 1795”. Reverse: A portcullis surmounted by the Prince of Wales’ crest with legend: “W. WILLIAMS LONDON”, “RENDER TO CAESAR THE THINGS THAT ARE CAESAR’S”. Plain edge. Issued by William Williams who was originally a grinder and latterly a button manufacturer with a business at 103 St. Martin’s Lane, Charing Cross, London. It is thought he was Welsh by the inclusion of the Prince of Wales’ crest. I wonder if it's also a subliminal message to the future George IV, Prince of Wales in 1795 and already a 'bad sort'? HONOUR THE KING and RENDER TO CAESAR seems like a pretty clear advice for a wayward Prince. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Honour 1765-1795...4o years wonder when the word honvor first appear in token,i think it is british word, not latin or french like honor. Not a 'British' word, more a Norman medieval scribes' word, as they tried to make sense of marrying a basically Latin/French system of words to an existing Anglo-Saxon (Germanic/Norse) system. Thanks for the lead, that mvst be one episode or program on start of early english langvage, good history...that far thanks. http://en.wikipedia....nglish_language Nice token.
  2. Might it be a previous sale? http://www.laidlawauctioneers.co.uk/about_us.html Maybe he is cataloging the site,by him self,he is arranging it by his own nos. in his site. I will go to coin that is rare in pop report of PCGS,NGC and CGS...jvst a comment.
  6. They say that most british coins is very hard to get in high grade in raw...especially in slab...if they are type set collectors, since most british collectors are into raw or type collection...i think. Since 2 major GC did have the same grade wonder what CGS will grade it,most american collectors do collect american coins thats why there market is different than GB,most GB collectors do it for hobby.not like america i think,,other collectors or investor who have money....it is been disvss in the past that they are cherry picking high price and rare coins maybe.... now they are going to british coins in slab since there is CGS GB company....amalgam of raw to slab market of GB coins and may change the market of GB coins in slab, only GB dealers and collector expert will know...for they are on the eye what is happening on the market, hope it is not artificial spike of prices the last one who bvy it maybe in the loosing side,if it is increasing like most rare coin of america and its slab coins with high prices dont know what GB coin collector comment on it,probally they dont like it.
  7. Thanks Its referenced Laidlaw: 0123b but i cant find the book or the ref for it Thanks Its referenced Laidlaw: 0123b but i cant find the book or the ref for it Thanks for the info circa 19oo maybe events before 19oo. It is a CM for civilians or commemorate an events, either death, coronation. Most military medal have bigger size and soldier name in the edge other on the back depending what kind of medal. It can be anything commemorating an event either the campaign of 3 generals there is a rose and thistle and shamrock which the infantry was designated as its symbol and cross rifle maybe to commemorate the infantry on that time the irish royal gvard and other royal or infantry maybe.
  8. Maybe it is general service medal for infantry. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Military_awards_and_decorations_of_the_United_Kingdom A transition pace for medals...it is silver is for officer bronze for enlisted i think, there are some article that medal..bvt most on decoration and insignia was modified when many infantry was vnified from 2nd boer to WWI i think. http://books.google.ie/books?id=BsNguHQdG0wC&pg=PA23&dq=BOER+INFANTRY+MEDAL&hl=en&sa=X&ei=ltSWU8CHOsXF7AagtoGgAQ&ved=0CDsQ6AEwAg#v=onepage&q=BOER%20INFANTRY%20MEDAL&f=false Maybe this one is close i think. cross rifle is for infanry with horse movnted infantry, horn maybe scovt same as binoclar, wreath is for award or crown medal or medalet i think. the 3 general maybe infantry on what sign they have, british infantry symbol rose thisle shamrock.
