  1. i think youtube provides an insight into the whole toning of coins these just being the first of many many more AMERICAN movies http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Jigp4qTkag8 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h_qs0wO_SEc http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VrA7Jyw1uOs i've always wondered is the rainbow toning even a legit toning for silver? i don't even see how it is possible?

    Coinex!

id love to go(would be my first coin fair thing) but unfortunately i'm working so maybe next year
  3. would love to see the boxes that are being ticked off for what is losing these coins the 18 points. ive always wondered too is why is there no 100 coin on their site? highest ive seen is 96 or so whats the point of it even going up to 100?
  4. perfect example of what i am talking about funny how i started this out looking for help on a next lot being sent away but now i am totally put off by the idea
  5. quite a fast turnaround for yours overall how long did it take for you to get them back? took me 2 months both times i did it. i agree with what they say about the inconsistency of the grading too ive seen some of the first graded coins that they have done to be quite low for being graded at 80's and such (if my grading opinion is worth much ) from this i think i have managed to do a u turn convince myself not to send any more off unless they are higher value ones:)
  6. always does make me think about this aspect of it as last time i spent about £450 grading the 30 odd coins and could have spent that on even more coins if not send to be graded. with regards to graded ones, ive never been to coin fairs and the likes but are there stalls where they sell graded coins and also do they seem to do very well? think im still getting over how unpopular graded British coins are
  7. yea they still charge the full amount even if rejected (had 3 wreath crowns i graded as mentioned in earlier topic all charged at £23 each and told they are forgeries)
  8. reading over what you guys have put so far has made me totally reconsider my whole approach to graded coins i assumed grading was more popular and wider accepted than it really is as to my reasons i am new to the whole coin collecting thing and have found books on grading to be no use in helping with deciding whether a coin is UNC or EF in particular so i use it to sort of gauge whether i am getting any better at the grading if that makes sense. in future ill need to haste you guys expertise more and save myself a few bob for the pictures it alright if i just give the id no? the 6 are as follows 0028023 cleaned 0028015 field damage? not sure what that means really 0028019 scratches-same as field damage understand 0027994 scratches same again 0027998 Verdigris 0027996 -cleaned ill put up the pictures in a sec if needed ill just re size them i can see the cleaned ones and understand and the verdigris at a push but the other 2 have me stumped
  9. my coin from Tuesday arrived today if that helps much?
  10. 70k for the una one doesnt seem too bad? might give it a shot next time
  11. think i gave that one a bid too if i remember correctly it went for something like £2600?
  12. most i was going to bid was 1500 and i went to 3500
  13. ive managed to get 1 out of 4 of the coins i wanted tried to outdo the american bidder for lot 335 but only so much i can do with a student paycheck
  14. going by what lot 9 just went for i wont be getting a thing
  15. on the subject of fake crowns feast your eyes on this beauty that i found while buying a job lot! masterpiece with a weight of 17g
  16. i sent away the crowns to cgs to get graded and when they came back the list came along with it explaining why they did not slab them. i have not gone close to wreath crowns again after this experience but i would still like to finish the set after coming so close thankfully it was not an expensive lesson i managed to get refunds from the sellers for the forged ones
  17. was basically raised dots from what i remember.looking at the milled edge compared to a normal one it was dead obvious almost like a large file had been used-uneven spacing and varying degrees of depth to the 'file'
  18. managed to hunt down the sheet here we go 1928- 1) there are numerous raised bubbles around almost all the reverse legend lettering 2) there is a larger raised bubble in the obverse field above the R of BRITT 1931- 1)the coin has an overall weak appearance, the reverse having two long die fault lines across the crown 2) there are raised bubbles in the field between BRITT and the back of the kings head 3) the milling edge does not match that found on royal mint striking 1933- 1) there is a large raised dot joining to the top curve of the D of DEI in the obverse legend 2) there is a raised dot in the obverse field following BRITT above the colon 3) the highest points of the reverse show little detail and have a 'filed' appearance on the center of the roses and the highest points of the thistles the 1933 is a known forgery and is thought to originate from china
  19. if this helps i sent through 5 crowns a while ago and 3 came back being fakes:( here is the pic of a '33 that came back a forgery what is also worth checking is(cant see on the pic) but the edge reeding? not sure what its called but it was very rough and was not accurate hope i help can also look at 24997(cgs) onwards for the other 2 fakes if interested
  20. anyone come across the problem yet when you are wanting to sell on a coin but the wife wont let you because she likes it too much? just came across this problem when i tried to sell on a Scottish hammered not really sure how to feel about this mixed emotions between being lucky she is showing interest and unlucky i cant free up the value in the coin?
  21. so i am 95% sure i have just received a 1953 proof set where the coins have been replaced by normal circulation coins. anyone ever had any experience with this before?
  22. i will definitely be returning these would have made sense to add at least fairly decent versions to try fool someone, half the coins that i got were scratched and the penny i suspect was even polished. has been a new experience for me anyways, the hours i have spent looking at the amazing quality of proof coins compared to normal ones has in the end paid off:P
