i use a forwarding address in the usa for purchasing coins from across there called shipito. they charge a flat $2 for per package, i usually get items free delivered(ebay) to my address over there and send untracked from myself(usa) to myself(uk) for cheaper than they offer as i don't need signed delivery. they also offer multiple postage options(fedex dhl the likes) but again i am with coinery with the insurance, cannot get a reasonable rate but so far i am 23/23 for packages received from my forwarding address I don't have to worry about being charged the wrong tax as i just use the 5% vat code and never a mix up.

straight $10 for pcgs and $5/15 from ngc, otherwise you get the trash pictures taken with a nokia 3310

have to pay extra to have half decent pics of pcgs/ngc pics that would show the hairlines

anyone planning on viewing any LCA lots in person and is willing to do me a massive and get alternative pictures of a couple lots while you are there? (if it is possible mind you) I will forever be in your debt LCA seem reluctant to reply to any communication

well these are the pre-conserving, nice and massive to try spot where my $100 went.

i just recently graded a coin with NGC and had to pay a stupid amount to have it conserved(aka have some substance removed from it). Got an email saying they will not give you a grade unless you go through with the conservation but the conservation costs 5% of fair market value. I if you decide not to go through with it you lose your initial grading fee already paid and it doesn't get slabbed. Possibly the same case as what atlas did here? Will post before and after pictures when I get it back for you guys to judge if it was worth the extra $100 or not

just wondering if it would be a good idea to have a topic where members would be able to post the lots of coins they are going to be sending away to get graded(cgs ngc pcgs or nnc if you are that way inclined ) and get some community help with whether or not some items are worth it in the end? 2 main things i thought to begin with is the likes of obvious cleaning and money worth(sending in a low value coin <£20) and being charged almost the coins value to have it graded? i thought something like this would be able to help as i just recently sent away 31 and 6 came back rejected, was one of those moments where i can see what was wrong with them after but totally didn't think of it at the time. so basically advice on what coins are worth getting sent away and advice on ones not to send away so as not to waste money any advice apreciated thanks

Me again Looking to post some valuable coins over to Germany and surprisingly got stuck with postage options. For insured up to £2000 the best I seem to be able to find is £90 postage, which seems a bit excessive? What postage options are there for this sort of thing or is that the right sort of price for what I happen to be looking for? I was kiNd of expecting it to be about £20-30 but nowhere near 100 Appreciate the help in any form

Hi again Been thinking about sending 3 coins away to get graded but wanted to check with you first to see if maybe im just seeing things and they are not as good as i think they are. the 3 are below will try get some better pictures if needed these are just the ones that i had on hand at the moment to get the ball rolling. (i know how you guys feel about grading in general but im a bit stuck in my ways now )

Just been reading over the BNJ articles and there is a reference to a 3 pound Charles trial piece. Just wondering if there are any good pictures kicking about of this coin? was described as a high relief and was interested to see what a high relief hammered looked like thanks in advance

i think i struggle from the same thing you are struggling with, my problem is i cant seem to get gold coins to show their actual colour in pictures they always seem to come out more silver/white than they actually are, maybe a lighting issue, where instead of too little light maybe too much light? my small ebay peeve is people that list something as "hammered coins" only for me to open it up and there is only 1 there and those 4 seconds are forever lost to my life

Still a way to go with this but been working with a '35 crown using putty/power rangers play doh would have worked better if i would have been able to get the whole circumference in one picture rather than having to crop 3 together. as i said though work in progress

thanks for that was a good read What was the reason again for the addition of copper plug to the coins (same with the farthings of the time)? Was this to try get people to associate a newly made tin coin(worth less than copper at the time i would assume?) as having some intrinsic value?

it appears that none have sold for 10-20 years at least (gold ones), there anywhere at all (quite a few of the reference books i am yet to aquire still) as to how many were struck? checked ESC but doesn't look like it falls into that books catagory(for the silver proofs anyway)
