"Votes for women in 1821" very forward looking. "pears soap" would be more likely -
The funny thing is like a few countries round the med Cyprus, Greece ,turkey Spain etc there is no supermarket culture in greece. Last year i went to kos and the thing that really struck me was how expensive the local shops are ie £1.20 bread 60p bog standard baked beans the prices were at least 40% more than the uk and up to 100% more. I did find a newly opened lidl on the island and that one shop saved me loads. The locals always seamed to be getting a poor deal and really suffered

1807 halfpenny : countermak to identify
copper123 replied to Monéphil's topic in British Coin Related Discussions & Enquiries
Sounds like their economy might have been in a bad way back in those days, as well as now if all they could afford too countermark was a copper halfpenny -
This is quite a lot to do with Germany in the first place - they allowed Greece in knowing the books had been well cooked in goats cheese. Now they whinge like hell because the greek dog turns round and bites them on the bum.

Why is rome called a "she" in this post a city has no sex surely.? Even then it is sure the empire was run by men especially in the last 400 years or so when it was effectively run by the military and not the emperors , surely a city should be referred too as masculine

Aha, I was under the impression that your father bought most of his coins - now you inform us that he found most of his coins in circulation. , quite a lot will be bog standard stuff then . You most expensive or valuable coin will be the 1905 halfcrown. Might I suggest silver from Victoria to George VI as a collecting platform , you could miss out the sixpences and threepence's as they are difficult to find in nice grade the early ones Like i said get rid slowly , don't try and rush BUY A BOOK And above all ENJOY YOURSELF

Not a bad time to sell ebay is the best place for anything under £20. You sound like you might want to follow on with collecting - just take a long hard look at the coins you have been left and think "do I really like/enjoy those coins" if you come away saying yes to yourself you might have caught the bug.. The late sixties was a boom time for coins with impending decimalization so unless your father was very lucky there will not be a fortune in the collection in fact a few coins might be only worth double/treble what he paid for them , I hope he did not just collect 1950 and 1951 pennies and later crowns etc.. Don't be scared to let go the ones you don't want, remember if someone else wants them the will be looked after and appreciated. GOOD LUCK

Be very careful that you are in safe enough employment because if you lose your job you may be forced to live off the 25% lump sums as they will bar you from benefits. You could however spend the lot on collectable coins or bullion sovs and keep it under the bed the social security will prob think you have spent it -
why not suggest he rides the golden horse cart round to your place for a valuation

Sounds like it will be a lot cheaper to buy this sort of item from a wholesaler. You will know better next time. Rub that Buddhas belly and dream of not being ripped off -
1881H Farthing CCGB2015 value
copper123 replied to Fluke's topic in British Coin Related Discussions & Enquiries
Yes, but we merely pointed out he was wrong, and he went ballistic about it, with coins it's a variety or not a variety or a grade or not a grade nothing else matters , some on here have spent years grading coins and are about fit enough to work for a slabbing company (not that I want anyone to start on that slippery slope). Buying a book and studying for half an hour will not be enough to get you anywhere near the grading standards of the experience collectors on here. He should be heeding what we say and learning from us and not just throwing his toys out of the pram , because he does not like what we have to say -

I suppose we all learn in life from the "school of hard knocks" and in the end , we are all the same fish in a barrel ,so if one fish jumps out it learns it's lesson by dieing on the floor very painfully gasping for breath.
