  1. I went to pageant very early Sunday morning. I had one my brothers high vis jackets on he'd given me. Waterproof and very snug. I walked onto Lambeth bridge without being searched. I was on the bridge for a few minutes when approached by a very high ranking police officer. He said " I am lead to believe you are the bridge commander!" No I said, I'm just a bloke in a high vis jacket. Police Officer "Where is the bridge commander then?" Me "I have know idea" Very odd day. Got stopped by members of the public for directions and were could they stand. All because of a new brightly coloured jacket!

Spink on-line catalogue is up. The Warminster mint Aethelred is up for £2,000 to £2,400 estimate. Blimey, there are some handsome coins in that auction.

Picked this up from the river a couple of weeks ago. No idea who it is though.

It seems like we are talking about the same people here anyway! The tin farthing pictured is exactly how it came out of the river. It looks like the powder covering the coin would dust off. It was a nightmare removing some of it...in the end I left most of it on there. It auctioned at £700. And Peter is right about the plugs. This was plugged with copper, some are found without the plug. The price of going across the Thames on a boat in 1690 was a farthing. Someone obviously dropped this one. In the early seventies a dectorist found a leather pouch on the river near Wapping. It was filled with farthings fron the 1600's.

Quite right Peter. I didn't want to come on here with the sole purpose of advertising the coin, which is why I left the auction name out.

The coin went to auction a few weeks ago to be photographed. It comes up the end of June in London. It's amazing the different valuations I've been given for other coins. One dealer in London has to be joking . Two coins that I took in were valued extraordinarily low! One offer was £30 to £40...went for £700. Two others were spot on. And one didn't even want it.

Thanks for the welcome Peter. I found the coin on the River Thames, I am a licensed metal detectorist. I have been offered substantially more than the price quoted here. The coin is going to auction next month....so yes Rob, it is for sale
