  1. There is no way I would grade that 1904 HC as Fine from those pics, I think all the lettering should be visible for Fine? And it should be irrelevant how rare the coin is. Happy to be contradicted ...
  2. Yes, I don't think the 1905 you bought is fully fine either, but I don't think you did all that bad for the lot as a whole, it depends what grade you want as 'keepers'
  3. My latest Cinque Port (pronounced Sink Port apparently) Conder token, just Hastings needed to complete the main 5, arriving later this week but not as high a grade ... Question for other Conder token collectors on here - I use the following sellers to source my tokens, any others I should be looking at? ABC coins and tokens (David Stuart) Baldwins (of St James) John Newman (johnnyqc on eBay) Druids Revenge (eBay Seller)

    My Latest Acquisition

From the pics, GEF for me, a trace too much wear, allbeit slight, for AUNC imo - very clean in terms of rims and bag issues in the fields
  5. My Hull token (it's D&H 21 I believe, as opposed to your D&H 20) - no flaw on the H
  6. A punt on this 1841 halfpenny, I'm grading GEF from the seller's pics, opinions welcome

    2016 New Pound Coin Varieties

Sorry but to say with the QC at the RM, varieties at that level are going to be almost infinite - tried pre-decimal coins?
  8. I have a bunch of English coins I would like professionally graded, for various reasons, and I do not want to use CGS / LCGS What are peoples' opinions on how US TPGs treat weak strikes vs wear, and mint wipes on 1902 matt proofs? Do they know what they are doing with these? Here's an example, VS what would this get from a US tpg? @VickySilver

    1902 half crown

I have this matt proof half crown which I will be selling at some point, notice the (relatively minor) Mint wipe

    1902 half crown

I believe so yes - I hope the coin looks a lot nicer in hand than those photos suggest!

    Secondhand resale

The secondary market (eBay etc) is the way to go for most modern RM proof coins and sets (if you like that sort of thing!) Very few fetch a premium on what the RM originally charged, most go for much less

    Ebay's Worst Offerings

I love all this and know about Mary, I also advise Rob's caution when it comes to attributing an item!

You've come on in leaps and bounds in both your grading and purchasing decisions Mick imo, great to see

    Cinque Ports Tokens Sub-Collection

    Oops, yes, good spot!
  16. I have become quite interested in the Cinque Ports Confederation in terms of English social and military history. My partner lives in Folkestone and I am there a lot. Just started, a couple of the 5 main ports:

    TICKET CENTRAL

I'd be happy to help administrate and//or moderate, guess that's up to @Chris Perkins

How Are US TPGs with English Coins?

Bit of a wipe on the shilling and sixpence though:

How Are US TPGs with English Coins?

    Fairly / totally(?) wipe-free
  20. Hence the discussion, why such a diversity? Such a common coin too! Happy with GEF for mine, but when coins clearly inferior grade-wise have a bigger or the same number then I question what is going on
  21. UNC with wear strikes me as an oxymoron, if the cap fits, wear it, you know who you are!
  22. Seems to be at least a whole grade of difference for me, would certainly be disappointed to receive this: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/1746-AUNC-George-II-Silver-Lima-Halfcrown-CGS-70-MS60-MS61-/332292189986?hash=item4d5e286f22:g:TbsAAOSwDiBZMyFt
  23. Sorry I should have added that in my OP. The edge listing is crucial as you say. Mine is “PAYABLE IN LANCASTER LONDON OR BRISTOL”. so a standard 44 I believe
