  1. My friend just hired a limo for £750 but it didn't come with a driver. Imagine spending all that money with nothing to chauffeur it!
  2. Interesting piece, a 1735 Geo III halfpenny. Apart from the anachronistic date, it's a very thin flan, 28.5 mm, 6.3 gr.
  3. Well, that was an education. It stood for a few days at £80 and I was very well pleased, after which came an attack from an ID I recognised as an American dealer in U.S. Colonials. (Anything bearing the head of the Georges becomes< automatically "colonial.") He kindly boosted it to £137, whence I gratefully expected it to stay. After a day or so I began to think that if a dealer were prepared to push the price by $35, then maybe collectors might pile in. They did. Tonight @ 09.30 it sold for £ 204.86 and the purchaser paid three minutes later.

Wellington Waterloo medal by Kempson - info?

Sorry Paddy but I've spent most of the day on this and can find nothing. Zip, nada, zilch, bubkes. Not one reference, not even a mention.

Wellington Waterloo medal by Kempson - info?

My field and my speciality, and I've never seen this before. Certain that it's not in BHM, possibly Eimer, which I don't have. I wouldn't part with this until I was sure. Can't check this out until Friday when I'm home. I'll PM you if I find anything.
  6. It is to my shame that I've had this for 53 years without noticing anything unusual.
  7. It has been on ebay for three hours with a starting price of £45, and the first bid is in. It's on for ten days, so it could get interesting.
  8. Thanks Paddy. I think I'll give this a whirl on ebay as I have a cheap commission rate tonight.
  9. Thank you. Is this recorded or catalogued anywhere?
  10. A guinea token, but one I've not seen before. Nicely struck up too. Can't find it in "A Thousand Guineas Plus" (Neilson and Warburton, 2013). Obv: What appears to be the correct bust of George III, right GEORGIVS · III DEI · GRATIA Rev: Can't pin down if the shield is right for the date, there were a few varieties M · B · F · ET · H · REX · F · D · B · ET · LD · S · R · J785 It looks to be an imitation of a Third Head guinea with a Fourth Head date The legend is incomplete. 24 mm, 4.9 gr.
  11. Just giving this a bump on the off chance that someone can ID it

    Ebay's Worst Offerings

Have a look at his sold listings* and you might think that it's worth buying shares in Brasso! * Sunglasses advised.
  14. It is BHM 810 and the image in Brown's book is without a hole.
  15. I've got some racing geese for sale. Let me know if you want a quick gander.

    Vinyl enthusiasts?

Back in the 60s, I was a "Saturday Boy" at Jim Marshall's shop in Hanwell Broadway. Once or twice we'd be sent out to watch over our hired amps at a gig, if the band was known to be clumsy.

    Rare coin lost in post

"At the end of the day, it is insured, so nobody loses out." Really? Over the last five years Royal Mail and their overseas confederates have lost somewhere in the region of £835 of my tracked/signed goods. Their reaction for on line auction sales was to ask for the ebay or equivalent link, proof of my original purchase (I've had some of this stuff for over 50 years) and try to pay me my opening bid price. i.e. 0.99p My actual financial recompense from the £835, has so far been £312, so it looks like these *&^%£$" are costing me £100 p.a.
  18. I've just told my suitcases that there's no chance of us going on holiday this year. Any tips on how to deal with emotional baggage?
  19. Karl Marx is a noted historical figure but no one ever mentions his sister, Onya, who invented the starting pistol.
  20. To quote the great Tom Lehrer in "Bright College Days" Hearts full of truth, hearts full of youth. Six parts of gin to one of vermouth."

    Pedantry Corner...

Compared to the cost of reshooting the scene, it was reasonable and Michael Roo's response seems to indicate that it was lost in the edit.

    Pedantry Corner...

Just before and after Uni I spent a few years in the Pinewood sound department. On The Prime of Miss Jean Brodie, there was a busy (and expensive) street scene shot on a permanent set at Shepperton. Dozens of vintage vehicles were used, many with age appropriate signage. One van said Mackie & Son Bagpipe Makes. I pointed out that it should be Makers and received the reasonable answer that if the audience noticed that, then they weren't much interested in the picture anyway.
