  1. My own thoughts are that this un-united front from UK politicians has only played out to the EU advantage. Our negotiating position has been continually undermined rather than all parties get together and approach withdrawal pragmatically in the Country's interest. News reports and statements bear out that opposition parties going to the EU to discuss their visions only undermine the UK Governments Position. You have Tony Blair and his cronies openingly lobbying other EU Countries ministers to oppose any UK suggestions You have London Mayor Khan telling Barnier to start the paper work for reversal 6 months ago, This isn't about what is best for the UK anymore it is all about Party Politics, Labour will motion for a vote of no confidence in the Government if the first Bill fails hoping for a General Election, if that is blocked they will propose a Peoples Vote and the possibility of staying in the Union. But equally May has positioned herself similarly, either My Deal, General Election, Referendum or we stay in, take your pick All designed to get Politicians to vote in favour of what they fear less. The EU has become a monopoly, anything passing the members boarders is subject to tariffs, taxes or red tape to make the members equivalent goods and services look cheaper. There are more Lobbyists than MEPs, and seeing that a failed Leader, politician in Neil Kinnock can go to the EU and return a few years later a multi millionaire, as did his wife and son, could be very attractive to some of the current Politicians in their later years.
  2. Unfortunately it has never been authenticated, although some of the books from the 1800s do list dates of WIIII copper as including both 1835 and 1836 Pennies and Halfpennies I have never seen or heard of any, apart from the reference you quote from both Bramah and Peck.
  3. Just received an Email from Fellows regarding increases in charges relating to some of the sites regularly used as alternative platforms to place bids at some Auctions. Fellows was the first Auction House in the UK to hold an online auction, since this point we have tracked the developments in technology and software across all the available bidding platforms to ensure that our bidders have the best possible options available to them when bidding on our sales. You may have read that one of the bidding platforms we use to run our sales, the-saleroom.com, will be increasing the fee it charges online bidders from 3% to 4.95% (5.94% including VAT) from 1st November 2018. We recognise that many customers use this bidding platform and wanted to make them aware of the increase as well as the other options we provide for online bidding: Bidding live via www.fellows.co.uk is staying at 3% (3.6% including VAT), this uses the-saleroom technology but is accessed via our website and you only have to register once with Fellows Bidding live via www.liveauctioneers.com is staying at 5% (6% including VAT) Bidding live via www.easyliveauction.com where you can bid for a flat fee of £3 Bidding with us direct by a telephone bid or leaving a fixed commission bid, both of these are at no extra charge Although the above relates to Fellows but I would be sure that similar applies to other Auction Houses that use these platforms.

    Has Anyone Dealt with iNumis

Telephone them, emails could have been spammed their end
  5. I visited the RM the October of the first round of visits, I struck the last Round £1 coin and it was advertised that only 100,000 will be issued for that coin exclusively to the first visitors, after which the RM issued several other commemoratives using the same coin design. I would keep it in the RM packaging to keep any additional collector value as I am sure the RM will issue more in commemorative packs if not for circulation.

  8. I couldn't help but notice the large number of Forum members with Computer technology backgrounds, so I thought who better to give me a little advice on the following. I am looking to buy a Tablet, curved ball, for my 80 year old Mother, as a silver surfer she can turn the computer on and find her way around it, but finds it cumbersome, she would like something both portable and lighter, it would need to be fully functional but at the same time user friendly, easy to use and one piece, discounting laptops (too heavy) and Tablets with bits that fall off. Requirements would be internet connection, photo/video storage, usage would predominately be skype, email and social media, she isn't into gaming yet. Any/All suggestions/questions would be most welcome John (Chingford)
  9. Thankyou all for your contributions and advice, I'll have a read up tomorrow with all suggestions in mind.

  12. Thankyou for your input, I hadn't considered the SD storage which would be a bonus as preferably I would not want her to have any subscription based addons, next thing She will be downloading apps and voting X Factor! I have a Curry's locally and will take a trip down there once I have accumulated a few ideas

    More Pennies

The last 8 in the date of both types look to have been reworked and are rather messy, but neither is an obvious overdate. At this time the Mint were using up old working dies and a larger number of altered dies are from this period

    Tax question?

Capital gains Tax most probably if the value after initial spend is over the threshold set for the period sold. Income Tax as it suggests is Tax on Income and would only come to play if you were buying and selling as a business. You would be better to look at Sites with Gov.uk in the Web address for an accurate guide to Tax thresholds, limits and liabilities, as it is they that set them

    10p a-z

Probably sooner than you think, I read not long ago that electronic payment is being pushed hard by the providers and Politicians favour cashless as a way of combating against cash payment etc. Even criminal gangs are now using Bit Coin and other crypto currencies.

    1853 proof halfpenny

It does happen where Colons are missed, notable examples are the CP1841 REG, CP1843 REG, CP1849 REG. and CP1854, there are a couple of other examples where traces are found probably marking out the colon but failing to revisit to cut the full colon, again on Pennies, but this is a first I have seen on a CHP.

    1853 proof halfpenny

I have never seen anything recorded for a CHP1853 missing stops in Bramahs, Mangahas or Batty and I haven't noted anything read from other text or Auction. I would agree with Rob, not a proof, a couple of indicators would be doubling of the O in Victoria and the 8, LHS, in the date as seen on all the proof coins I have seen and studied.
